Sometime after Nevermore, Wednesday's books are finally published and picked up for a movie franchise. Unfortunately for her, their success means she is thrust into the limelight. Enid, however, is living.

(A celebrity social media AU, featuring BuzzFeed articles, late night shows, shameless online flirting but mostly, the hellscape that is Twitter.)

I feel like we don’t talk enough about how Wednesday and Enid got paired up as roommates. Like I’ve never seen anyone talk about it at all other than the occasional Enid’s-moving-out-because-Wednesday-did-some-shit fics. What I want is an outsider’s perspective/character analysis that justifies why these two seemingly diametrically opposed individuals were placed in the same room.

Was it Thornhill? Was it Weems? Does Nevermore require that you fill out a roommate questionnaire? Is it more supernatural and less mundane? What’s taken into account (as in does species or supernatural ability matter when it comes to roommates)? Were they paired together because they both happen to write? WHY was Enid, the most socially inclined character ever, rooming alone? Was that her parents doing? Was she being socially isolated?

Like I have real questions here. Feel free to argue in the comments/tags, I’d love to hear some theories/head canons.

A soft whine slipped out between Enid’s lips, and Wednesday paused in her writing preparations.

“Why are you making that sound,” she deadpanned, not turning to look at Enid as she began checking the typewriter for the proper amount of ink.

Enid wasn’t sure if she could talk. The desire for closeness was growing larger by the minute, and another whimper fell from her desperate lips.

“Enid,” Wednesday warned, and her voice was enough to draw Enid’s voice back out.

“Need you,” she whined, gripping her sheets tighter.

But then those obsidian orbs flickered downwards and slowly the whites of her eyes got bigger. As the realization dawned on her, Enid knew she was screwed.

Wednesday grabbed her chin and gently coaxed her forward never straying her eyes from the singular drop of red that was such a contrast to her abnormally pale lips.

"Enid."

Her name was spoke with such startling venom that it left her frozen in place, unable to stray her attention away, lest the slithering snake sink it's teeth in.

Wednesday wiped what remained of smear with her thumb and then licked it off. Her eyes on Enid the entire time.

"Start talking."

The first bit of flower she coughs up is a yellow rose petal. 

It’s horribly unfair, actually, because Wednesday hates roses and the sheer intensity of the yellow is enough that staring at it actually, physically hurts her eyes. She would have preferred dahlias—the black ones, naturally—but if it had to be a rose, couldn’t it have been the thorny portion? Or at least a red rose, so she could occasionally lift a handkerchief to her mouth and imagine what it would have been like to be a 19th-century spinster, coughing up spots of blood before an inevitable death by consumption?

Oh, right. It also means she’s going to die.

In which Wednesday—despite her firm belief that it's impossible for someone like her—contracts hanahaki disease, and she and Enid learn what it means to define themselves on their own terms.
