Was asked today to meet with @sophiethompson and Tom of the @nrp.aus National Resilience Project to discuss rolling out their service to our Pasifika peoples both in Australia and New Zealand and especially in Tonga as a pilot project and then the rest of the Pacific. Their company provides AUD$5500 of free education to ANYONE especially indigenous and PI in various fields of IT, from blockchain and crypto to coding and network management. They then put the trained people on a list that government or companies can call on either regularly under normal conditions or during disasters and resilience events to do any IT work necessary. One example for Tonga is developing an App in conjunction with MIT to map coastal erosion helping us know where to plant mangroves that help land reclamation. Instead of sending seasonal fruit pickers we can turn unemployed Tongans into IT/Computer staff that Aust and NZ can use remotely to manage projects for them online. This is a game changer.
