          “ hey, c’mon now, vi, ” louis croons, grinning widely from ear-to-ear in amusement. “ it’s time to turn that frown upside down! ” his two index fingers poke into the dimples at the corners of his mouth for emphasis, as if physically pointing out how to smile will make her want to do it any more. “ frowning uses more muscles, anyway, and i’m pretty sure i read somewhere that it causes premature wrinkles. you don’t want that, do you? ”

‘i can’t lose you.’ ( luke to nick !! )

          Nick can’t bring himself to look at him. Not when he says shit like that, a fate that’s so unavoidable at this point in time that it was merely a waiting game to see which of them will make their permanent exit before the other. He won’t tell Luke that he wishes for himself to die first, a cowardly escape to avoid being forced to live without him. Losing him would be his ultimate breaking point, having already come so dangerously close to it several times before. It was LUKE who always kept him from reaching that point, the one person who could ever have a chance at pulling him from the darkness. Without him, he’d be nothing.

          “Don’t,” he manages to whisper after a passing of lengthy silence, still unable to move his eyes away from where they’ve locked onto the floor until he squeezes them tightly shut. His hands ball into fists, trying his best to quell the anxiety that bubbles up in his throat at the mere thought of it all. “I just - don’t want to go there. I - I can’t.”
