Going through my files, I found a partially finished timeline analysis of the #WeRaceAsOne initiative that I never used for my thesis on how countries use mega-events like sports and musical events for their image rehabilitation and to whitewash human rights abuses. it essentially goes through how the initiative was an unfulfilled promise that didn't achieve everything it set out to achieve.

So, I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in reading that.

I’m a masters student studying Sport Business and need some F1 fans to fill out a survey to help with my dissertation. It is investigating racism within the sport and the authenticity of the #WeRaceAsOne campaign. Both Lewis Hamilton and Naomi Osaka are using their platforms to spread a vital message that black lives matter. The only difference being that Naomi wore masks with the victims’ names on them in each game, to remind us that we should never forget these beautiful souls, we need to keep fighting so that more names don’t get added to a list that should not even exist. While Lewis wears a shirt saying the message that black lives matter, and for the one race where he wears a shirt demanding justice for a victim, specifically Breonna Taylor, he is getting investigated.

If the FIA carries forward with this, the EndRacism and WeRaceAsOne messages risk becoming obsolete, and it will be a slap to the face to the sport’s black and POC fans such as me. It risks turning away new potential fans from different backgrounds.

We need to stand together with Lewis in this, show them that this is no political message but a call for justice. We need to stand together as one.

I’m honestly living for these questions redditors are posting for Stefano Domenicali’s AMA (President & CEO of F1, same guy who said racism doesn’t exist in F1).

Doubt he’ll answer any of them cuz his PR team is probably handling the entire thing but hopefully the constant questions about the increasing environmental concerns, human rights concerns, and increasing inaccessibility to watch F1 due to subscription costs all send some sort of message that as a collective, we ain’t happy.

We Race As One has always come off as virtue signaling, combining COVID and racism efforts with a co-opted rainbow and it was already bad that not everyone was kneeling.

And now they cut away from the kneeling after 8 seconds to show PRE-TAPED skydiving.

Meanwhile NASCAR pushed their lone Black driver’s car to the front of the grid all together to show their solidarity and voiced support when he was attacked by the US president. Football/soccer has had the entire pitch kneel before matches, shirts that said Black Lives Matter on it in warmups and on the back of jerseys.

F1 can’t even get all their drivers to kneel and now didn’t even show the debacle live when it happens, while claiming the want to “end racism.”

They should be ashamed and embarrassed at their lack of unity with their lone Black driver while claiming they all support the cause. They should know they have to do better because they’re failing and it can’t be hidden.

Did anyone see what drivers took the knee? Bc i wasn't able to make out everyone. Nevertheless dissapointed that basically half of them still didn't do it despite having a whole year to get educated... :/
