I am "obsessed" with the issue of self-reliance and self-exaltation. But nit because I subscribe to it, to the contrary, I'm against it. A Yoruba prover says "Ęni kan o kin ję, awade". That is to say, a single individual cannot claim "we have come". The pronoun "We" is fundamental to better and more successful relationships between families, spouses, neighbors, teams, siblings and friendships. In a world where people claim to be "self-made" millionaires and the likes; where is all about "I", where people take pride in going at it alone. It is no coincidence that the seeds of depression and unhappiness are increasingly growing each passing day. The battle against pride and self-exaltation in our hearts is a battle for joy. Helping hands helps others. In return, its the greatest joy of all.
