Ink Month Day 6
Werewolf - Marvelsepticeye
Marvin knew being out this late on his own wasn’t the best idea. Still, the flower he needed for his potion required a full moon’s light in order to bloom, and the petals had to be exposed before jarring or it wouldn’t work the same.
He was going to be quick. He knew exactly where the flowers grew and had everything prepped to grab and go. He was fine.
“Oh, look at you beauties,” Marvin said in awe when he finally saw the flowers. The stems were short, but the petals were long and glowing blue in the moonlight. The insides shifted in the light breeze, sparkling as if they were covered in iridescent glitter. “Just need to steal a few of you.” He continued to speak to the plant as he plucked a few, setting them in his jar to be properly prepared back at home. “There, plenty left behind to keep flourishing.” Marvin made sure the jar’s lid was on tightly before slipping it into his bag, adjusting the strap on his shoulder. He did one more look over the flowers and nodded as he turned to start a spell to send himself home.
Then he heard a howl.
An abnormal howl.
Marvin stopped his spell and tried to find the source of the sound. He had no idea what could have made that kind of noise. Was something hurt? Angry? Just calling out?
While he was busy trying to logic out what he had heard, he didn’t notice the rustling behind him until it was almost too late. Marvin just barely had time to make a magical shield to block some of the force of getting tackled by something over double his size. His back landed on the grass, and he thankfully missed the flowers.
“Damn it!” Marvin snapped, using a pulse of magic to shove away his attacker. He scrambled to his feet, finally getting a look at the…wolf?
A large wolf-like creature was hunched over on four legs, panting heavily and arching like they were going to attack again.
“Don’t you dare.” He ended up using almost a scolding tone with the wolf, holding up glowing hands in preparation to fight, but then the creature whined. The whine sounded like a sad puppy, and the way the wolf lowered themself and pointed their ears down, they even looked like a sad puppy. “What?” Marvin dropped his hands and stepped slowly to the wolf, ready to leap away at a moment’s notice.
Getting closer, he could see more of what was on the wolf’s body. Marvin saw the bits of red fabric that clung to their sides, and then he saw something that stood out like a sore thumb. He plucked out a mask from the back of the wolf’s neck. A very familiar mask that he’s seen countless times.
“Jackie?” Marvin looked at the large wolf, who just blinked at him with a pair of blue eyes he had seen time and time again, having that same look whenever the owner of them got scolded for even the smallest thing. “Oh, my God. Jackie?" The wolf, Jackie, whined again as his body went flat against the ground. “I’m not upset with you.” Marvin sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
Jackie made a happy yipping noise as he bounced back up and nudged his muzzle into Marvin’s side. His tail wagged, and Marvin saw that Jackie was still strong in this form; the breeze from the wagging made nearly all the plants behind him lean away. Hell, he had almost been knocked over by the simple nose press.
“Alright, alright.” Marvin pushed Jackie’s muzzle away. “At least you’re not fully feral. Should be able to take you back to the House and-” He stopped when Jackie rolled to his back, tail still wagging, mouth open as he panted and eyes soft with his silent request. “Absolutely not.”
“Rrrw-” Jackie whimpered.
“I’m not rubbing your belly, that’s so weird,” Marvin stated, rolling his eyes when Jackie whimpered more. A long string of whimpers and whines that were just so sad and even broke through Marvin’s cat-lover wall. “Fine! Just enough with those sounds.” The sounds did stop as soon as he agreed. “Just a quick pet and then we’re going home,” Marvin stated as he crouched down. He paused before sighing and just getting it over with, using both hands to scratch at the fluffy stomach presented to him. Marvin hummed at how strangely soft the fur was. Jackie’s tail was back to wagging once more, and one of his hind legs kicked, showing how good the scritches felt. “You’re a dork.” Marvin chuckled, straightening back up and watching how Jackie flipped over and was back to all four feet. “Let’s go home and fix this.” He turned and started the spell he had begun casting before finding Jackie, well, Jackie finding him.
Soon, a fairly large portal appeared. Marvin had made it larger than usual to make sure there was plenty of space for Jackie to get through with little to no risk of problems. He was about to gesture for Jackie to go first, but instead got headbutted hard enough to launch him onto Jackie’s back.
“Jackie!” Marvin called out as he gripped the fur around Jackie’s neck. Jackie simply howled in response and ran through the portal.
Some things never change, even when in a different shape.
