Beauty permeates from #abandoned #19thcentury structures like this still left untouched by post modern vandals and those who have no respect for our heritage or past. This is one of the best preserved #frontierhomes I’ve seen in #SouthernUtah. The #ghosts and #memories of those who poured their lives into the land still haunts these walls. Their home is built into the earth—part dugout, part log shack—typical of frontier living during the waning days of the American Old West. The makeshift barbershop and weathered gear hint at the gritty, day-to-day life of cattlemen working far from towns or amenities.

Did you know? Dugouts like this were common from Texas to the Dakotas during frontier expansion. Cowboys often improvised everything, from furniture to haircuts, living in isolation with only their tools, horses, and each other for company.
