Hubby has just sent this story of a grandad and his wild west garden to me. Whenever I read something like this, apart from enjoying the article and feeling full of praise for the owner and creator, I always want to write to the publishers of the story and the subject (Grandad Stephen Smart - Dude - in this case) and share with them that I'm a 70 yr old granny of twin teenagers and I too have been fascinated by the wild west since my own teens, particularly the pants wearin' gun totin', cigar chompin' gals of the period.
My hubby is brilliant and has not only supported me along the way, but has joined me in living history events at various clubs. He's quack doctor Jack Coltrane and I'm Kitty Le Roy (who really existed). I have a pioneer cabin in the back garden and we own a traditional Canadian canoe. I even appeared in a couple of newspapers and on the telly!
When my two kids were young, yes my daughter was thoroughly embarrassed, and my neighbours, friends and family have mostly been extremely supportive - if a tad bemused at times, but I think it's all fabulous! Folk who pour derision on it need to find a hobby!
Now I need to nag Stephen! He's only sixty-five, yet he thinks he's too old to visit the States. Rubbish! He wants to visit Australia first, and that's great, but unless he has something medically wrong, age doesn't come into it.
Anyway, I'm going to contact Stephen if I can, to exchange our hobby (and my epic western trilogy, Alias Jeannie Delaney, which is doing well) and the newspaper, and share my own story. 🤠
