I'm in my process of reading the last book in the Westmark trilogy, and I thought it would be fun to do a little crossover between Westmark and The Chronicles of Prydain since theyre both written by Lloyd Alexander :3

The Chronicles of Faerie by O. R. Melling (1993-2003)

Me, reading/watching any medieval fantasy fiction: Wow, getting my period there would suck more than it already does.
I haven’t read Lloyd Alexander’s Westmark trilogy in ages but I used to have and still have a very clear shot by shot film opening of it set to Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Procession of the Nobles” in my head from when I was about 15 years old.
I think it’s about time for a Westmark movie trilogy don’t you

Happy Birthday, Bard of Prydain and beyond. This world would be a far bleaker place were it not for the gifts of humor, warmth, joy, and hope you gave us in your books. You did not ignore the darkness in the world, but you believed it could be--and should be--defeated by light, and you showed that over and over, in every one of your books, from plucky Vesper Holly helping others to help themselves and outwitting evil-doers again and again, to Theo and Mickle working toward a better world in the face of unrelenting bleakness and despair, to Taran and Eilonwy joyfully triumphing over the forces of death and becoming who they were meant to be in the process.
I would not be the writer nor the person I am today were it not for your books. Much like Eilonwy’s bauble, they have lighted a path in the midst of gloom and darkness, and the deeper my love and understanding grows, the more brightly they shine.
Like Taran, Theo, Tamar, and others, I dreamed of heroism and glory as a kid. Your books opened my eyes to the idea of true heroism and the emptiness of glory. “I have learned there is more honor in a field well plowed than in a field steeped with blood,” Adaon tells Taran, and those words sank into my heart and changed me forever.
With Eilonwy, Joy-in-the-Dance, Vesper, and more, I was able to take pride in who I am--a girl with a sharp tongue and sharper wit--and not let anyone try to diminish me or force me into a role that didn’t fit (while at the same time gradually realizing that maybe it wasn’t the noblest thing to sharpen my tongue or wits on my friends).
Your books showed me that all one really needs to get by in life is a sense of humor, a zest for adventure, and an eye for magic. Some days that’s harder to come by than others, but it’s a principle I try to let be my guide.
I wish I’d written all this to you when you were still with us. I hope you can receive mail in the Summer Country.
Thank you for the magic and the joy you gave us. It’s as fine a legacy as anyone could wish.
