“The Afro-American militant is a 'militant' because he defends himself, his family, his home, and his dignity. He does not introduce violence into a racist social system - the violence is already there, and has always been there. It is precisely this unchallenged violence that allows a racist social system to perpetuate itself. When people say that they are opposed to Negroes 'resorting to violence' what they really mean is that they are opposed to Negroes defending themselves and challenging the exclusive monopoly of violence practiced by racists.” Robert F. Williams No one bats an eye that parents of other cultures teach their children survival skills... but someone is looking at this picture and sees my children as threats and probably has questions as to why this picture is necessary. In fact when it was taken back in 2017, @phyllis.iller and I discussed if the public was ready for this visual. I have been teaching my children weaponry (use, maintenance, safety and storage) since they could walk. Tools of weaponry (guns, knives, bows & arrows) as well as using their hands as tools of weaponry (boxing, Brazilian ju-jitsu, Afrikan martial art). My father taught me... I, my mother and Dilla’s father taught them. Both of my parents are 50+ years in military and public safety and I’ve never seen to this day either one of them unarmed. We are all licensed to carry- openly and concealed. We are not a violent family... but we keep that thang on us. Not because we’re violent... and no “but” to what I’m about to say... because it’s our right to defend our families and it in turn their right to defend each other. I don’t owe anyone an explanation, and the one I gave is a courtesy. 🕊 #wewillshootback #trainedshooters #straightouttaBSK https://www.instagram.com/p/B5dQSrClWUQ/?igshid=1dypinfmti1ik
