June is #orcaawarenessmonth! Transient Killer Whales were renamed Bigg's a couple of years ago in honour of Dr. Michael Bigg whose research changed the way we look at these animals. Bigg's Killer Whales are significant less picky than their Resident cousins when it comes to prey, they hunt marine mammals-everything from small seals to whales twice their size! They are also frequently found in much smaller groups than Residents and their family bonds do not appear to be quite as strong.
