Yep, it's some bullshit. Have had private conversations with friends about how this kind of divisive tumblr culture doesn't apply to RL LGBTQ communities at all. Kellie was scared to go to her first Pride this year bc she was afraid ppl wouldn't think she belonged, and I was like, honey, Pride is nothing like the internet. At Pride, everyone's just happy to be there and be alive.

That’s the kind of thing that really worries me about the culture online, that it’ll actually discourage people from finding local community even when it’s available to them.

Like, not to say nobody will ever be an asshole in person or that irl community is without flaw, but oh god kids please don’t be misled into believing that tumblr discourse is representative of the what you’ll find anywhere and everywhere else.
