I was recently offered a job, which is very cool. it is more or less what I have been doing for the past three years, which is fine. I liked the people I interviewed with and the benefits are promising. the main issue is the pay is not great; i would be taking a definite pay cut. 

I am not sure if I am currently overpaid (probably???). I don’t think I can try and negotiate a higher salary, as it is a job with a public university in Ireland and they have pay scales contingent on previous experience. 

the pay also isn’t TERRIBLE, and might in fact be good for the type of work I am expected to do?? this is the only job in my search so far that even asked me to interview, so I don’t know if I will get any more bites in my applications. I do have a couple out for jobs I am much more excited about (better pay and more interesting work) but I have no idea if I will even get to the interview stage with them.

the folks who offered me the job want a response ASAP as they want me to start ASAP, but my start date is in January at the earliest since I don’t want to move to Ireland before Christmas. (and YES on top of this I will be coordinating an international move prior to starting!). they want me to start January 17, and I imagine the earliest I would be able to get to Ireland is like a week before.

I don’t want to string them along while I wait for responses from a couple other places as the university people are in urgent need of a hire. but I also am not super enthusiastic about it. but this might be as good as it gets??

i’m scheduling rn (actually my enrollment period doesnt open until 8 tomorrow but i’m ready) ANYWAY i’m taking a 300 level w our new children’s lit prof, intro to queer theory, and (if i get into it) an american film class. the problemo is that my children’s lit class and my film class are on the same days back to back and i try to have two classes a day, but the only classes i want to take (either intro to poli sci or another 300 level medieval lit class if i really hate myself) are also on tu/th and right before my other two classes. so i’d be in class. for like 6 hours straight. 

i was also considering taking cultural anthro, which is at a good time, but 1) i didnt do well in bio anthro despite enjoying the class and 2) there’s 1 (one) review of the prof on ratemyprofessor and it’s a 1 star.
