Can I bring the pain, and ask WHAT IF in the Tattoo AU, Steve also called Peggy in private, and she did convinced him to getting back together? (Or maybe the others just THINK she has?)
So let's say Peggy convinced Steve to give her a second chance, it would cause a rift not just between you and Steve, but you and Bucky slightly and Bucky and Steve.
The obvious rift with you and Steve is that he's giving Peggy a second chance, which means you two are no longer together. It would hurt a lot. Out of respect for your feelings, you'd ask Steve to not contact you and would try to avoid him as much as you could. Which isn't easy since he lives with Bucky, but you manage.
You'd worry that Bucky would dump you next. While he hadn't been with someone as serious as Peggy, what's to stop him from leaving you, too? You know in your heart that he wouldn't, but hadn't Steve promised not to hurt you, too?
Bucky would be furious with Steve. He knows, at least in this life, that his best friend doesn't belong with Peggy and that he hurt a wonderful person in the process. It would be one of their biggest fights. One that's tough to recover from.
Would he still be his friend in the end? Yes. But it might be a strained friendship for some time. He'd look for a new place to live or move in with you. The work environment would be tense. He wouldn't want contact with Peggy. Everyone would feel the tension.
You'd be happy with Bucky once your walls are down again. Both of you would wish that it didn't take that hurt to get there.
