Walking Dead fans who have managed to continue watching nine seasons of a series, that has had it’s ups and downs in questionable story lines, death of characters that should have lived and the continuation of characters who should have died long time ago, have come to the end of road with the most pivotal character on the series Rick Grimes, who is played by Andrew Lincoln.
As a long time fan of the graphic novel and the television series, this was bitter sweet and a fitting end for this character and probably for fans who have been slowly slipping away from the show.
The last three seasons have been a toss up and knowing that the better days of the show are long gone (season 1-5)but ,you hang on for Carl (RIP),Maggie (believe last night was her last as well),Rick (?),Carol,Michonne and yes...Daryl.
After watching “What Comes After” I believe the show also gave long time fans the option now to also exit the series, with a considerable six year time jump when you return next Sunday everything will be different,so if you are going to bow out, last night would be your last as well.
Although, there are plenty of Rick Grimes stories to be told on the new program from the network, which will be called “AMC Originals”.
Featured films from the network will continue telling stories of Rick Grimes for the foreseeable future.
This should not be a surprise to anyone who has been watching Fear The Walking Dead, remember when they use to those “shorts” (backstories) that you had to watch on their website and eventually the character(s) would make an appearance on the show later on.
Pretty much same concept, but now AMC will make feature films with Walking Dead characters to continue telling stories of the Dead.
This also can be an excellent backdrop if ratings continue dwindling and the network ends the series on cable.
No longer will they have to worry about sponsors/commercials,you have noticed when it’s a great episode (main character(s) impeding death or departure) and they are expecting a high viewership and we get more commercials, than if it was an episode that you could DVR or watch after Talking Dead or after you watched something else.
So,it’s good to see AMC is thinking out of the box,I wished my beloved X-Files had thought the same and would have ended the television version after season five and continue with movies.
Thank you Andrew Lincoln on your awesome nine years of portraying “Rick Grimes” on The Walking Dead.
