What is occupational therapy?
OT is a healthcare profession that helps people return to what’s most meaningful to them.
Pretty vague right...?
The beauty of this profession is how it allows us to help anyone regardless of age, background, or diagnosis in very creative and holistic ways. Our education and training helps us understand the many components that make up a person (such as their mental health, physical abilities, emotional well being, social supports, etc.) and how these factors can help or hinder a person’s ability to engage in everyday activities.
Here are just a few examples of what OT’s can do:
-Improving a child’s performance in school by addressing sensory needs -Helping an adult regain independence in bathing and dressing after experiencing a stroke -Providing resources/skills to a teenager with Autism as he transitions into adulthood
