You'd be amazed at what $250 can get you these days... not in a good way. It's almost depressing what traps are out there for those of you with some extra cash in your pocket, but fear not - we're here to guide you off the path of frivolous spending.
Since we've already made it quite clear that original art is the absolute best use of $250 on this green earth of ours (beating out charity and college by just a hair), we'll advise on how NOT to shell out 250 big ones.
We can't guarantee that this list covers every expenditure blunder, but we can guarantee that if you steer clear of these eight travesties, you'll be much better off.
1. X-Men Figurine Statues: Yup, this is an actual listing on Craigslist - http://bit.ly/17WoblK I wish I was lying. The posting asks for 250 dollars, while describing that the figurines are "like new," besides the fact that Wolverine has "two broken claws."
2. NIckelback concert tickets: Nevermind your wallet, save your ears some pain and imminent damage.
3. Items from a hotel bar: Sure that bag of peanut m&ms seems like edible gold at 2:30am. And sure- that bottle of Evian probably would taste like the tears of a happy angel, but seriously - don't do it. One bag turns into 13, and then you're sitting 250 in the hole surrounded by nothing but candy wrappers and self-loathing.
4. The Bike Scooter: Transportation's version of the liger. With a topsy-turvey and totally ridiculous looking design, avoid the scooter-bike, which retails for $249.99 + your dignity.
5. Rodarte Sock: Nope - not socks, one sock. The designers at high-end fashion house Rodarte seem to think its okay to sell each sock for a quarter-grand. To them I say - it's not okay, it's offensive - what kind of world do we live in where its ok to spend $250 on a sock? http:// bit.ly/19Ax2xc. So please, blogosphere, stay away.
6. Ke$ha limited edition album: Let's be clear, there is nothing limited about Ke$ha except maybe the depths of her talent.
7. Rims for your Honda: First of all, rims - really? Unnecessary. Second of all, $250 will probably get you one nice tire rim. If it buys you four, then they are definitely stolen, so run the other direction.
8. Vanity license plate: While we're on the subject of cars, let's discuss license plates. Unless you are the .1% that come up with something AWESOME to put on the back of your car, join the rest of us in 'UZW237' obscurity. I promise, ILUVCATZ is not getting you any new friends on the road.
We hope these eight bastions of buyers remorse can help us all be a little more careful with our cash. When you spend $250, buy something that lasts - that helps tell a story, sparks a conversation, and adds a little color to your life - like a piece of original, one-in-the-universe art from one of our amazing artists. That's just a no brainer.
