This is probably a really stupid question and I am so sorry but I love learning new languages! I'm learning 2 right now: Korean and Arabic. I want to add Bulgarian, French, Mandarin, ASL, and others one day! I want to study languages, but I don't want to study the science of them. I don't want to study linguistics.. I've taken a couple intro uni courses on it and I hated them but I don't know what else I would study or how to put this into a Job or a Career?? Please help
And you ask that to a linguistics blog?!
I don’t think you can turn hating linguistics into a career.
Language-related careers can also be based on studying translation/interpreting but you’d be exposed to some linguistics there, too. I think wherever you want to put language skills to professional use you’ll be required to have at least a basic understanding of linguistics. So maybe learning languages is better something you do as a hobby instead.
Or you could ask yourself why you hated the linguistics classes and try to resolve that. Changing universities, trying other teachers/courses, changing one’s own attitude from rejection to curiosity ...
