I am wondering on this take on how much JW’s actions are motivated by “obsession” with XL and not by well...Mei Nianqing.

The narration of what happened since the beginning to the end is entirely dependent on MNQ and I think he underestimates his value in JW’s life.

Despite the fact its HIS words which finally made JW stop. Not XL outsmarting his move, not HC’s sheer power, Not nearly bleeding to death. NOTHING stops him until MNQ decides to step on the way and confirm to him that , No, he never intended to humiliate or belittle JW’s choices and feelings. That he is tired and wants to rest with him from now on.

So I wonder and think that the reason JW left XL alone for nearly 800 years and didn’t badger to contact him again the whole while despite it being beneficial in the whole charade of “i am kindly father figure to you , Xianle” , is because he couldn’t find MNQ around XL anymore.

He didn’t “calm down” so much he lost the reason to torment XL up close and personal.

So he thought up his game again 800 years later because somehow he knows that MNQ has to be around just like he was when a Prince born under same star as he was born where he expected to find him. XL ascending is not an unknown celestial event. It would draw MNQ out eventually if he lives and here he is!
