THE PR PRESS PREMIERE: WHELMING - “MORE OF WHAT I HAVE”

Originally the solo project of vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Erik Severinson, the lineup now includes guitarist Eric Wettstein and drummer Mark Kerrey. A response born out of the question, “If I had everything I wanted, would I still want it?” sees the group questioning reasoning, and motives for the things we proclaim to miss and need more of. Change is perpetual, as is our opinions and views on life.

The track is demanding (“I just want more of what I have, I’ll never get bored of what I have, I just want more”), looking for what is deemed ‘better’ at some point in time. It’s quite condemning, but done in a way that honours our thinking as being simply, human. It’s classic rock meets surf-rock, with a tinted appeal that sounds like it could be found off a humble cassette tape. “We used our most sepia tone chords, threw in a pseudo surf-rock riff, and even ran the whole intro through a tortured and failing cassette player,” Severinson shares. 

Equal parts of dreamlike nostalgia and rock n’ roll displeasure, raw emotion and energy is not an issue for Whelming’s wandering spirit. “More of What I Have” is stimulating, for the ears and the minds, as a reminder to appreciate the journey of life and all that it has (and will) bring.
