Okay I finally finished estival. I've concluded the mechanics in this event were designed with the target audience of people active in the official discord and no one else
Everything is a rush
By the time I'm even aware a puzzle exists, the game is already prompting me to skip it to get onto the next big thing because other players (who are more online) already solved it
The puzzles don't have clear entry points, clues, or progress markers. In hindsight one may decipher small hints but it seems like the majority of solutions didn't come from the hints but instead came from brute force by a large group of players. Which isn't very good puzzle design. And I know the game is capable of good puzzle design, example the discordance and the miser herding puzzle in Zenith.
The plot... there's not enough of it. The player felt like a spectator to it without their own goals or motivations. Once you get done with the puzzles that's the entire plot with the player standing on the sidelines watching stuff unfold with the bishop and others. The ending was just "click through and read this story," no sense of tension. Sure, I felt some emotions about it, but I didn't feel why the player was involved other than being ~The Player.~
It all makes me go hmmm
I saw another post that said this estival has all the flaws of previous estivals amplified and I really feel that
And another thing: giving people access to some premium items for a little bit only to take them away, a free trial if you will, encourages microtransactions even if not intentionally, and personally I'd rather they not do that but hey that's just me
New event joke title: "interest not found"
estival themed smk. the law furnace, a shard of almost-ordered time, the all-encompassing croissant
Smash the shard of almost-ordered time
Marry the law furnace... forge a marriage license previously unknown to man
Kill the croissant... unpopular opinion but I got bored fast of the joke </3 It's okay though because this just means I get to eat a delicious croissant
The critical mass of londoners was only 666? Haha funny number yeah we get it but I would have liked a bigger progress bar so I could still feel like I contributed if I wasn't online within 1 minute of the activity opening
That's just a bafflingly small number for the size of the player base
