CAN I KICK IT?

_en Making a successful comeback after an eight-year break is not an easy task. Well, making two comebacks while the second is perfected by a successful album release, that is something only a handful of bands can do. In this case, we are not talking about anyone else than the band from Queens calling itself A Tribe Called Quest. This group produced a collaboration with Vans this year.

Apart from the successful return on stages and the legendary status, ATCQ also has collabs with Stussy, Nike or BBC under its belt. The Vans collaboration graphically reflects the discography and lyrics of ATCQ, the lyrics are printed on the laces for example. The line comprises six silhouettes (this can vary based on regions as the production seems to differ for US and EMEA) in the classic execution.

For me personally, there are three models with the most interesting execution. The first one is the Slip-On, which refers to the latest album ‘We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service’. That released during the second comeback. The next is the Old Skool reflecting the first album ‘The Low End Theory’ and the best is definitely the yellow Sk8-Hi. Their colourway is pretty rare because a yellow upper combined with a black sole is hardly seen on Vans silhouettes. This is also why their distribution is so limited, which means that they will only be available in Footshop in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The details in their execution, as well as the colour, commemorate the ‘Bonita Applebum’ record, which is also written on the side of the shoe. On the heel, there is a painted depiction of ‘chasing’ Bonita, but the greatest bonus is hidden on the inner side of the shoe. It’s Bonita’s measurements, 38-24-27.

This music-related collabo is a fine refreshment after a long period when Vans collaborated mostly with Metallica and Tyler. It is also a massive honour for such legends as ATCQ. The release is on April 6, don’t sleep on those yellow beasts!

_cz Zvládnout úspěšněj comeback na scénu pro osmileté pauze není úplně easy záležitost. No a zvlánout dva comebacky, přičemž druhej je korunovanej úspěšným vydáním desky, to si může dovolit jen minimum kapel. V tomhle případě nemluvíme o nikom jiným než o partě z Queensu, která si říká A Tribe Called Quest a letos vytvořila spolupráci se značkou Vans.

Mimo úspěšný návraty na pódia a status legend, má za sebou ATCQ i collabs například se Stussy, Nike nebo BBC. Vansový collabo reflektuje graficky diskografii a texty ATCQ, kterými jsou například potištěný tkaničky. Najdete v něm šest (podle regionů se to může lišit, protože to vypadá na trochu rozdílnou produkci pro US a EMEA) siluet v klasickým zpracování.

Pro mě nejzajímavější provedení je na třech modelech. Prvním je Slip-On, které odkazují na poslední desku „We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service“, jenž vyšla v rámci druhého comebacku. Dále Old Skool, který zase reflektuje první desku „The Low End Theory“ a nejlepším je rozhodně release žlutých Sk8-Hi. Jejich cw je celkem rare, protože žlutý vršek s černou podrážkou se u Vansu často nevidí napříč všema siluetama. Proto mají taky velmi limitovanou distribuci a v rámci CZ a SK budou pouze ve Footshopu. Detaily v jejich zpracování i barva odkazují na skladbu „Bonita Applebum“, což je na boku boty i napsáno. Na patě potom nechybí kreslený znázornění „nahánění“ Bonity, ale největší bonus je skrytej na vnitřní straně boty a to jsou míry Bonity 38-24-37. Tohle hudební collabo je po delším období, kdy se Vans spojoval hlavně s Metallicou a Tylerem, příjemným osvěžením a taky velkou poctou pro legendu jakou ATCQ bezpochyby je. Release je 6.4. a na „žluťáky“ nezaspěte!
