The fact the in am seeing z*tara shippers say that Katara and Aang never had a disagreements/ conflict with each other until TSR and its good that Katara and Aang have that in NATLA as if we haven't seen them have fight in the season 2, avatar state, or like how Aang said "you dont have to do this for me" "im not doing this for you!" In season 1. "What avatar are you watching?"

i saw a tweet that said “ships shouldn’t have to be rooted in conflict and toxic tropes to be good” and in the quotes, someone also said “and just because a healthy couple has conflict doesn’t immediately make them toxic”

both sentiments perfectly describe my attitude towards that community and all their complaints towards kataang:

1, just because katara and aang have a healthy dynamic doesn’t mean they never disagree or that they would never have conflict. they bicker throughout the show, yes they bicker the least, but they have a lot of moments of getting on each other’s nerves that make their dynamic really fun to watch.

also as you said, they do have actual serious disagreements way before TSR. anyone saying otherwise just hasn’t paid attention until z*ko came around, which is obvious.

2, when katara and aang do disagree, these moments are often used against them by the same critics:

see, [this time they disagreed] he doesn’t understand her!

he ONLY sees katara as this idolized version! look how he reacted to her in this moment of conflict

he doesn’t value her opinion. he NEVER listens to her!

just immediately resorting to these extreme takes whenever they are shown to have conflict. but then admitting you want them to have more conflict?? why, so you can use it to fuel your confirmation bias that the characters are incompatible and katara is secretly unhappy and miserable? so you can have more fodder to demonize aang further? so you can erase every single moment they support each other and argue that their dynamic is defined by these few short-lived moments of disagreement?

it’s a futile argument because these people hate seeing kataang happy and simultaneously, nitpick every argument they have and add it to their list of reasons not to ship kataang *ominous voice*

nuance and duality are lost on these people and it’s best to leave them in their echo chambers where they belong

#my asks #pro kataang #antizutara fandom #in fact i’ve noticed that ships based on friendships #tend to be held to a way higher standard #than those based on hatred oppression rivalry etc #for when friends disagree suddenly it’s an indicator of negativity #that would define their romantic dynamic but not their friendship #for some reason #and when the oppressed is friendly with the oppressor it’s a sign of forgiveness and trust #which whatever #but people need to start being honest with themselves #antizutara #< for filtering

i'm sorry but the batman-poll on who handed over someone to the police to be put on death penalty and then having cass be voted as the one who didn't do it because discussions (on here, from what i've seen) always show her breaking that guy out because of her belief in all life is sacred but never the ending and that's why people have this misrepresentation of her. but also shows how the fandom has a fundamental misunderstanding of who and who isn't "a cop"

not to be controversial but the asexual comment is meant as an insult and the james bondage thing is word play made up by a homophobic right wing lady, this show (and the books) only acknowledges gay people exist when there is a good joke to be made of it, a killing joke if you will

#not to mention the queer coded characters (textually via books or via actor comments/interpretation) do not matter #in terms of identity #which whatever #but one can't dismiss the off balance here #i'd rather they just didn't ever mention anything remotely related because then you start wondering #like guys this takes place in LONDON #😭😭😭#slow horses
