violence #1 and/or #18????
1 the character everyone gets wrong
If no one got me I know @riding-with-the-wild-hunt has me on this one, but look it is absolutely integral to Finrod's arc that he builds Nargothrond on the homes of the petty dwarves and this says everything about both him and the Noldor simultaneously. Classic anthropologist thing to do and iykyk.
18. it's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on...
Per NoME Thingol's mother gave birth to his youngest brother on the Great Journey while Thingol was ostensibly "king" of the Teleri which means that a) his mother was probably alive in Doriath and b) his father either wasn't or had abdicated to Thingol. All possibilities are fascinating but I am begging everyone to consider: Melian the Maia has a living, breathing mother-in-law.
There are SO MANY possibilities for interpretation here. Like, does his mother resent Melian for stealing him from them? What does she feel about the Ainur anyway considering the Ainur just up and left them after offering to take them to Valinor in the first place? Is she a strong-willed woman? Did she leave her husband behind to join her children on this journey? WHO IS SHE. WHO IS THINGOL'S MOTHER. Do you guys not simply torture yourself over pondering this in the middle of the night!!!! Do you not wonder what kind of woman gave the world Thingol and Olwe? Did she leave with Olwe? Did she stay behind for Thingol and Elmo? If she stayed, does she miss the middle son who went across the sea? Does she hope they might be reunited? Did they part in bitterness? Did she survive the Kinslayings? Did she look the other way when Thingol locked Luthien up in a tree? Did she feel grimly satisfied and proved right that the Ainur couldn't be trusted when Melian left after Thingol's death? Did she ever think she should have had a hand in ruling Doriath? Did she, in fact, puppet Dior and Nimloth? There is literally an infinity of possibilities and we should consider all of them!!! Just my thoughts!!!!
