Being a white British person, how can I refer to people who aren’t of my ethnicity or nationality? I’ve heard POC (person of colour) and non-white sets white as the default and can erase some people’s white heritage (like if someone’s mixed-race/biracial/multiracial - am I able to use those words too?). I know there’s conversations I can’t have because I don’t have experience with being any other ethnicity or nationality other than white British. However, when I’m discussing diversity in areas such as film and other media, I want to aim to be respectful with my language when referring to people who don’t have the same ethnicity or nationality as me (I hope I’m using those terms correctly).

Only 17% of the UK are white british, like wtf?? Is this true?? Why are the government still accepting people from different countries. Its bad enough for us white british people to find jobs and places to live. Dont let in more people that would steal our jobs because they would work for less than the minimum wage.!!      If we went to foreign countries we are forced to learn their language without any help, but when they come here they get free translation services and extra hrlp finding jobs and homes, why dont the government do that for us??

In fact, the British weren't particularly precise about products arriving from the East.

Persian carpets were called "Turkey rugs."

Indian flour was called "Turkey flour."
