White Storks and Eurasian Beavers are to be released in East London as part of a new rewilding project.
The releases will form part of Rewilding East London, a project delivered in partnership between London Wildlife Trust and the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, and supported by the Mayor of London.
As well as looking to increase local biodiversity, the project will improve access to nature, offer outdoor learning and create opportunities for growth. It forms part of London Wildlife Trust's wider mission to restore nature, enrich ecosystems and reconnect people with wildlife across the capital.
White Stork Ciconia ciconia @ WWT London by Adam Swaine Via Flickr: Very much a breeding bird of southern Europe, this red-billed, black and white stork has a small breeding population in southern England, the result of a reintroduction attempt. The only documented record of a pair of White Storks breeding in Britain is from Scotland in 1416, when a pair was reported to have nested on St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh. A small but successful reintroduction programme in East Sussex is responsible for recent breeding attempts.
Fun fact, one of the ways I’ve distracted myself from life these last two(ish) months, is by following a white stork family here in Denmark, through a livestream. We used to have a lot of storks here in Denmark, but rn we only have 12 ish mating pairs. The couple I follow and love deeply, are Connie and Thorkild and their five kids. There is no meaning with this post, other than showing you pictures of my favorite stork family from the last two months.
Look at them, ugh I love them sm. the family I dream of

Guests on Roof
Two days ago when I came home there were 5 white storks sitting on top of our house. As you can see, all of them used the roof as a convenient bird loo.
