Okay so a part of The Strange Noises From The Hole In The Wall that I haven't seen people talk about? (It very well might be just tumblr search being Very Bad). The fact that trains are a non-existing, old technology.
Which means Benjamin and his parents do not live in today's world (but in some kind of sci-fi world?)
I have so many headcanons about this?? So here, have some of them in form of this art which I hope will be the first of several inspired by this longform.
[Image description: a digital artwork, organised as sort of a moodboard.
The top part is taken by a cityscape, painted in something like watercolors. There are tall buildings and skyscrapers, all with soft edges and curves. The pallete is pink, turquoise and light blue, but the further away it all starts greying the further away it gets. The sky is fully veiled with grey and yellowish clouds, that partially sneak in between the buildings. There are two lanes of flying cars that look like brighter blobs speeding past the skyscraper roofs; indigo, crimson, violet. There is a small hovering traffic light, as well.
The middle and lower part of the art have a light pink background. The middle part is three separate sketches. There is a face of a child in profile, wearing an breathing mask with multi-coloured tubes sticking out of it. They have dark hair, light skin and look slightly surprised. They are supposed to be drawn in Miyazaki style, which is somewhat recognisable.
The central sketch looks like a warning sign or a pop-up message on a screen. It's a cherry red frame that reads "caution" in all caps and below it, "pollution level: critical". The word "critical" is in dark crimson. There is also a pie diagram that shows a circle almost full with red, with only a sliver of white remaining.
The last sketch of the middle part are two gloves lying next to each other, protective gloves resembling winter gloves. One belongs to a child an is light blue with a yellow strap. The other is an adult's glove, green with a red strap.
The botrom part of the artwork shows to the left a poster of a car, except it's a flying car, again, blob-shaped. The background is almost fluorescent light blue, the car itself is pink and has a semi-transparent top instead of the windows and the roof, showing five seats and pilot controls inside. There is a Mitsubishi logo on the front.
To the right is the same person, except a bottom corner is peeled off, and you can see cracks spreading from under it, as well as a gaping hole. It is dark, and there is nothing except for a silver train tracks that look like they're starting to climb out of the wall into the room.
