Katherine let out a shriek as cold water lapped at her thigh. Shelby, who was stood with the water up to her stomach, grinned at her. "Wimp." She cooed lovingly.

"How are you not cold??" Katherine began to rub her hands up and down her goosebump-covered arms in a futile attempt to warm them.

"Are you kidding? I live in a swamp, sweetheart, I'm practically immune to the cold."

Katherine raised an eyebrow. "Oh, really?" And without giving it a second thought, she rugby-tackled her girlfriend, sending them both into freezing cold water.

The shock made Shelby gasp, inhaling a mouth of salty water. But before she could start to panic, her head broke the surface, at the exact same time as Katherine, both of them coughing, spluttering and screaming.

"What the hell, Katherine?!" She tried to look angry, but couldn't help herself from smiling.

"Practically immune to the cold, huh?" Katherine grinned wickedly.

"Oh my god, I hate you."

"Love you too." She smushed Shelby's cheeks together between her hands, and gave her a sweet kiss on the lips, before sticking her tongue out in disgust. "Salty."

Shelby scoffed (though still grinning), "I'm flattered!", and splashed a handful of water at her girlfriend, who fixed her with an intense stare before stating, "You literally just declared war."

Shelby laughed - a fatal mistake, letting her guard down, as she was immediately met with a handful of water to the face. So naturally, she retaliated.

Their squeals and giggles and splashes filled the otherwise quiet landscape. After all, who on earth would be mad enough to be out in the cold?
