Buddie Moodboard - Coast guard AU
AKA those two boys all wet was a given. Then I watched The Guardian (2006) not at all that long ago. And that always sends me places when it comes to AUs for my OTPs. So why not trade fiyah for watah and see what comes of it, right?
Buck and Eddie are two of the top rescue swimmers in and around Los Angeles. Both are part of the Aviation Survival Technician program. Along with their team members Hen, Chimney, and Bobby, they have since made a name for themselves.
While there were some mild animosities at first, the two are now near inseparable. Even in the tide, the two seem to find each other without even looking. Though if anyone asks, they always say the same thing:
They just have each other's back.
Though all know the risks involved in the job they do. Any day might be their last. Any rescue mission may leave them stranded at sea.
Eddie finds himself in doubt on more than one occasion. Not only were his parents very much against his choice to start at the coast guard after he returned from Afghanistan, they since pressure him about his son's wellbeing with him as a rescue swimmer.
After all, he's all Christopher got after Shannon walked out on them.
Thankfully, he has Buck's support. Not only does he offer reassurance when Eddie finds himself in doubt about his abilities as a single father, but Buck shows up. He helps Eddie manage, outside the job. If he needs a babysitter at the last minute, Buck will always answer his phone.
Though the feeling of appreciation for their friendship is mutual. Buck doesn't just adore Christopher, he loves the feeling of being necessary in someone's life again. After Abby ghosted him, he felt so much like he did before – like he's only just this job and nothing more. But with Eddie and Christopher, Buck dares to think that he's something. At least in their eyes.
As things progress, it appears that friendship is not strong enough a word to describe their relationship. Both struggle with burgeoning feelings for their best friend, as that may put their lives in danger out in the field. Struggling with your feelings is no option when you struggle against nature itself, out at sea.
Sadly, fortune doesn't seem to be on their side. First, Eddie nearly dies during a rescue, with Buck unable to get to him before Eddie can cut the line to save a boy. And then, a tsunami hits, just as Buck and Christopher are on the pier on Buck's day off…
