GOALS/CONFLICT

MOST PAINFUL EXPERIENCE OR AN EXPERIENCE THAT HAS SHAPED WHO YOUR CHARACTER IS TODAY: An experience that shaped her was discovering how strong her elemental magic was. When Lola’s emotions are pushed to the brink, they become too strong and in turn that can make her magic lash out in a reckless & dangerous manner. This was discovered at a young age when she was devastated over the loss of her pet cat and her distress caused a small earthquake in her town. To this day the town still don’t know or understand how an earthquake managed to hit them. 

CHARACTERS GOALS. WHAT DO THEY WANT? WHAT IS THEIR BIGGEST DREAM? To travel and see the world for everything it is and to control her elemental magic

CHARACTERS MOTIVATION. WHY DO THEY WANT THE GOAL ABOVE? FOR WHO OR WHAT? Lola loves travelling she wants to do it all the time. As for controlling her magic, she wants to to this to avoid anyone ever getting hurt around her if her magic decides to lash out. 

CHARACTERS CONFLICT. WHAT IS KEEPING THEM FROM THEIR GOALS? Travelling? Nothing. As for controlling her magic? Professor Cromwell has noticed Lola is gifted in elemental magic and is pushing her to the limit. This is taking its toll on her health/body/mental state. However Lola keeps pushing  herself because she has faith in her professor.

Task #003 The Patronus Charm

Priya isn’t the most powerful witch, that’s for sure. But when she sets her mind to something, she’ll work tirelessly to achieve it. The patronus charm was one of those things. She can form it, but it’s with difficulty that she can do so. On to the symbolism!

Like the bright colors of a peacock, the personality of those with this patronus is one that tends to capture attention. They are what society may often see as eccentric, being very comfortable with the way in which their spirit guides them. They have a confidence, and very in tune with themselves. However, they tend to have trouble trying to see in the shoes of others, and do not realize others can see them as very strong or intimidating.

Peacocks represent integrity and self expression, which are undoubtedly two things that Priya values. She has a strong personality, a strong confidence, and definitely has no problems with having attention. She’s open with everyone, friendly to a point where some people might find it a bit too much, where she’s coming off a bit too strong. While I can’t say she’s apathetic, she surely isn’t the most empathetic person you’ll ever meet. She’s emotional, personally, but she can have difficulties when it comes to really understanding and relating to the feelings of others.

task 3: oliver’s patronus

Can it be cast?: With some difficulty, yes. 

Does it have a corporeal form?: On occasion.

What is it?: Buffalo

Imagine, if you will, tiny Oliver. Like, I’m talking before-his-biggest-growth-spurt Oliver. It’s also worth mentioning that said growth spurt still only left him at 5′9. So this Oliver is very small, he’s angry all the time, and he doesn’t know why but he knows that everyone hates him. He just. Knows it. But tiny little nerdy Oliver is sitting in his DADA class, and they’re learning about dementors. Which, subsequently, means learning about the patronus charm. It sounds totally bitchin’, and Oliver’s gotta learn it. He’s kind of afraid his patronus would be something lame like a blobfish or a fruit fly, but he has to know. 

And blah blah blah, it’s a super difficult spell, it’s not like everyone can cast one, he doesn’t care. He’s gonna do it. First attempt, nothing. Not a single thing. Second, third, fourth, same thing. Nothing. Maybe it’s that his memories just aren’t happy enough and wow isn’t that a depressing thought for a Tuesday afternoon? Whatever, he’s gonna really try and he’s gonna get something. 

If he could just. Cling to the memory a bit harder, maybe it’ll work this time. So he thinks back to the last Christmas they all had. His mother had claimed some kind of illness that day, and it had been just a few years before his grandmother passed. That day had been great. No mom breathing down his neck, her silent judgement boring into the back of his head something awful. And his Nana had always been kind to him, even when she found out about him being magical. His Granddad had been a bit...slower in coming around, and even now it’s not like it’s somethin he acknowledges, but he never hated Oliver for it the way his mother did. Old age mellowing him out, according to Oliver’s father. And Bethany and Jack were too young to hate him, not that Beth ever did. That had been a good day. A great day, one of the few holidays where he felt more like a person and less like the elephant in the room, where he was allowed to exist and not shrink back and--

So his first successful attempt at casting a patronus didn’t actually have a form. But the research he’d done independently had told him that that was normal. The most basic successful patronus charm would look like any other spell. But now he knew he could get this far. Which, when he thought about it, was comforting. The world hadn’t managed to break him yet, and if it meant he could make, like, a tiger or something come out of his wand and look super cool, he wasn’t going to let it.

The first time Oliver was able to give his Patronus a shape, he was older. He was better now. Happier. So maybe that’s why, this time, instead of the usual wisp of blue, it was a bright flash, and then...okay, so it wasn’t a tiger or a dragon, but Oliver’s patronus was downright monstrous. See, to a person who’d never seen a buffalo up close --so, most people-- the sheer size of one is astounding. They’re bigger than most cars, height wise, and they’re extremely bulky. So for someone like Oliver, it’s a surprising development. Except, of course, when the personality of people with a buffalo patronus is taken into account.

People who cast a buffalo patronus often have trouble with their emotions. Not in feeling them. That is all too easy. They feel, and greatly so, but grapple with an attempt to appear stoic and controlled. In reality, they wear their hearts on their sleeves, and are easily affected. They are most often protective of those they love, and can often be stubborn. 

With a description like that, it’s really no surprise to people who know him that Oliver would end up with this patronus.
