“W-who are you?” The blindfold heightened Whumpee’s every other sense. Their own voice sounded too loud in their ears.
Not even the sharp metallic taste of blood in their mouth or the strain in their arms that were tied painfully tight behind them or the rough gravel digging into their knees where they had been forced to kneel could distract them from the sound of their captor.
Their shoes clacking against the ground in a slow, predatory circle the only thing they could focus on. The sounds echoed off the walls making it harder to focus on where the person was as they circled them like a predator.
Were they sat in the middle of a garage? A warehouse? It seemed like some kind of large, empty room. They hated that they could feel nothing around them but the cold draft sending shivers up their spine.
It was hard to tell how close or how far away their kidnapper was.
“You don’t remember me?” Whumpee froze.
Close. Their attacker was close. Too close. They hadn’t realized the sound of their footsteps were getting closer. The echoes and the blindfold cinched over their eyes and ears made it too difficult to pinpoint.
They stood right behind them. Their voice low in a terrifying whisper. “I’m a little saddened by that, Whumpee. How could you forget me?”
“Whumper…” they breathed in disbelief.
Whumper chuckled, sending a different kind of shiver through them. They tsked in that easy, teasing way they did when Whumpee had really pissed them off. Like they were hiding their real anger behind their calm. That was always when Whumper was most terrifying. If they were calm.
“After everything we’ve been through, you just forgot me? We’ve spent so much time together in the past. Hours and hours. You always seemed to love when I visited. You were always begging for more. Or… were you begging me to stop? You know, after a while it was hard to understand what you were saying at all. You always did have to work on your mumbling. Got you in quite a bit of trouble before.”
The easy threat sounded like death to Whumpee’s ears.
Perhaps they already were dead.
After all, Whumper was dead. Caretaker killed them when they had rescued them. Whumpee saw them die. Whumper can’t be here. They can’t have captured them again. Dragged them off to who knows where.
Maybe Whumpee had died in that attack on the street. It hadn’t been a blindfold over their eyes taking their sight before their vision had gone completely black. No, it was death taking them.
And they’ve met Whumper in hell.
It had to be.
Because…
Because…
“You-you’re supposed to be dead..”
“You didn’t think it’d be that easy to get rid of me, did you?”
“C-caretaker killed you! I-I saw you!”
“They managed to get a good hit, I must admit. Much better than a weakling like them had any business getting on someone like me. They had taken me off guard, though. But it was very… satisfying… to return the favor.”
Caretaker’s face flashed through their mind. Scrunched with anger and desperation and terror.
Beaten.
Bloody.
Being pulled away from them, kicking and screaming as two masked people jumped them. A third attacker getting a nasty hit on Whumpee, rattling their world as their arms were wrenched behind them and a blindfold covered their eyes.
Caretaker had been with them when Whumper had kidnapped them. Caretaker had been attacked too.
“NO! Caretaker! What did you do to them?!”
“My, my. You’ve certainly gotten bold in your time away from me. I don’t remember you being so… loud.”
“What. Did. You. Do to them?!” They ground out between clenched teeth.
“Pity. We’ll have to do something about that unruly behavior again,” Whumper sounded less than impressed. Their non-answer only spiked Whumpee’s anger more.
“WHERE ARE THEY!? What have you DONE to them?!” Their uncharacteristically strong voice echoed off the walls. Even being back in Caretaker’s hands for a while now, they had not felt this willful in years. Not since Whumper kidnapped them the first time.
“Nothing they can’t survive, I’m sure.” Whumpee could hear the scoff in Whumper’s voice. “Stubborn, that one. A real thorn in my side. I couldn’t really kill them though, as much as I’d have liked to. I simply incapacitated them for a while.”
Whumpee bristled despite their fear. Their voice dropped menacingly as they growled “Where are they?”
“Oh, that’s the good part! I had my guys take them back with them. I’m sure they’re keeping them safe.” Whumpee’s heart squeezed when they remembered Whumper’s two right-hand men. Ruthless and strong. And incredibly loyal to Whumper. Whumpee has plenty of scars to remind them of those two. ‘Safe’ was a relative term with them.
“I wanted some time alone with you. See how you’ve been since Caretaker took you from me.” Whumper gave a dramatic sigh. “I see they’ve taught you disobedience. I suppose I’ll have to beat it out of them too.”
“Don’t. Touch. Them.”
“No, no. That would ruin my plans. If I remember correctly, threatening them was a great way to keep you in line. Only now I don’t have to lie that I have them under my control in order to get what I want. In fact, I’m sure you’ll have front row seats to hear their screams if they’re in the cell next to you.”
“No! Don’t hurt them! You wanted me! You have me! Leave them alone!”
“Ohhh, now,” Whumper tsked again. “That wouldn’t be any fun. I think it’ll be quite interesting to see who I can get to break first. Especially if it’s to ‘protect the other’. What do you think, Whumpee?” Whumper chuckled, their voice light. Teasing. “What would you do to stop their screams? Hmm? What would Caretaker do to stop yours? Who will succumb to the pain first? Crying and screaming and begging? Who will be able to withstand it longer?”
Whumpee tried to pull away from the rough grip on their chin as their head was forced to look up at where they imagined Whumper’s angry, fiery eyes were glaring down at them but it didn’t budge. They could feel Whumper’s hot breath on their neck as they leaned closer to their ear, sending Whumpee’s back ramrod straight at the proximity.
Whumpee hated to admit it, but Whumper’s presence terrified them to their core. They kneeled on the hard, painful floor frozen except for their quick, sharp gasps of air. Vulnerable. Scared.

Hero pulled up to her house. She had just had the longest day of her life and she just wanted to sleep.
She reached up for her garage door opener and...
Froze.
Her garage was already open. And a car was parked in it. She lowered her hand and studied the car.
Black SUV. No license plate.
Someone got out of the car and Hero's heart dropped.
Not him. How did they find me?
Sidekick stood a foot taller than her and he had his stupid grin she had grown to hate plastered over his face.
Sidekick made his way towards the car.
"Shit." She put her car in reverse.
A car pealed around the street corner and stopped inches behind her car.
"No. No. No." She put her car in drive.
Another car came around the opposite street corner and stopped in front of her.
Sidekick was getting closer.
"I'm not going back." She unbuckled and crawled to the passenger door, throwing it open.
She jumped out of the car and sprinted towards the house across from her.
A hand wrapped around her arm and pulled her back. She stumbled and turned to see Sidekick smiling down at her.
"I'm not going back." She said clawing at Sidekick's hand.
He laughed and swept her up throwing her over his shoulder. "You don't get a choice."
He turned to her house.
"Or did you forget that you signed a contract. As far as I recall you still have three months left."
Hero kicked and hit at his back. "You think I'm actually going to help the group now?"
Sidekick stepped in the house and made his way up to the kitchen. He had already set up a chair in the middle of the room with ropes and duct tape surrounding it.
Hero's heart dropped.
Sidekick threw her to the ground and put his boot on her back.
Hero struggled kicking and fighting. "You're just not going to answer me. Bastard."
Sidekick chuckled and grabbed a length of rope. "I'm just going to let Villain answer your questions."
Hero froze. "He's... here?"
Sidekick grabbed her arms and pulled them together wrapping the rope tightly around her wrists.
"He sure is. And..." he pulled Hero to her feet and pushed her to the chair. "I don't think he's very happy with you."
Hero shook her head and stood. Sidekick pushed her back down. He wrapped a loop of rope around the chair and her wrists. She glared at him.
Sidekick smiled and tapped her nose.
"You're such a bastard. Why am I that important to the group? Why did you need to find me? Why..."
Sidekick rolled their eyes and pushed a balled up sock into her mouth.
"Too many questions." He grabbed the duct tape and put a strip of it over her mouth.
He sat down across from her and chuckled at her glare. "I'll be nice and answer one of your questions."
He pulled a small box from his pocket. Hero's eyes widened.
"I believe you were told to steal this and bring it back to Villain. But instead you disappeared."
Hero closed her eyes and shook her head.
Footsteps echoed through the house and Hero's eyes shot open.
Sidekick stood. "Looks like Villain wants to talk to you now."
Whumpee has been missing for a long time, probably quite a few months. The team has nearly given up searching, and caretaker had never been the same since. A shadow of their former self since whumpee was taken.
One day, whumpee manages to escape somehow. They limp their way back to their old base and let themselves in. They make their way around the base, looking for caretaker. They're worried if caretaker will even still remember them or care.
Eventually, they pass a doorway and they catch a glimpse of caretaker's form, back turned to them. They quietly approach (for they had learned to walk silently to avoid attention from their captor). When close enough, whumpee simply croaks out a weak "Um... Hi?"
Caretaker slowly turns around, probably thinking it's a rookie teammate trying to annoy them. As they lock eyes with whumpee, all the color drains from caretaker's face and they drop whatever they were holding, shattering it on the floor.
"Whumpee?? Is this real? Oh my god! Oh my god, it's YOU!!" they shout. Other team members hear the yelling and come running to the room, only to find caretaker embracing whumpee with all their might, never wanting to let go again.

The woman on the TV droned on about the rising costs of avocados... or something. Charlie wasn't really paying attention. He was more focused on his phone. Crow was sitting right next him, scrolling on his own phone, occasionally turning the screen towards Charlie when he found something funny. Before, Crow had hidden his true sense of humor. Charlie thought it was because he wanted to be "serious" and "professional". Now, he was showing him shitty memes that were so stupid, they were hilarious.
A light knock at the door made them look up. Charlie threw himself from the couch with a grunt and shuffled over to the door. He didn't bother to look through the peephole before cracking the door open and sticking his head out.
"Hey," Mallory said.
"Uh, hey. You can't come in right now," Charlie spoke quietly.
"Oh. Why not?"
"Crow's here. You gotta go."
"Oh. Okay, I'll-"
The two of them startled when Crow grabbed the door and opened it all the way. Charlie cringed.
"What are you doing?" Crow questioned.
"I was just, er, stopping by. You know, to say hello?" Mallory spoke.
They stared each other down for far too long. Charlie was stuck in between them.
"Come in, then," Crow said.
Charlie hadn't realized he was holding his breath until then.
"I- er, okay," Mallory replied.
Once the door was shut, Mallory stood there, fidgeting with the button on his sleeve. Crow grabbed a bottle of ale from the fridge and sat where he was before. The air had suddenly become heavy, and Charlie was unsure of what to do. He felt like guest in his own home, afraid to do something he shouldn't. Finally, he found his way back to the couch, and motioned for Mallory to sit. He visibly took a deep breath before moving to the chair adjacent to them.
"So, uh, what brought you down to London?" Charlie asked in an attempt to break the silence.
"There's a conference this weekend that I try to attend annually," Mallory replied.
"Oh, cool," Charlie said.
Crow was staring Mallory down from behind the bottle, and wasn't trying at all to be subtle about it. Mallory was clearly uncomfortable, which was certainly Crow’s goal. After a few more minutes of awkward silence, Charlie decided to get up and go to his room, just so he could breathe.
He kind of felt guilty about leaving Mallory there to endure Crow's violent gaze. He knew that he couldn't disappear for too long, or else he might return to a crime scene. As he reached for the door handle, he heard them talking. He stopped.
"I just wanted to say thank you, again," Mallory said.
"Don't mention it," Crow replied.
"I mean it."
"Seriously, shut up. Not a good time."
"Wait. He doesn't know?"
"Drop it."
Charlie threw open the bedroom door and tore back into the main room. He made a dramatic show of turning off the TV and standing in front of it with his arms folded.
"What don't I know?" He questioned.
"God dammit," Crow sighed.
"He didn't tell you that he beat Kendall's head in?" Mallory asked.
"What?"
"Oh, yeah. It was brilliant."
"How... how did you... why?"
There was a new kind of tension in the air. Charlie was the one staring down Crow now, silently demanding answers. It took Mallory a few seconds to process how badly he'd fucked up. After Crow failed to provide the response that Charlie wanted, he slipped on his shoes and stormed out the door. Crow flinched as it slammed shut.
"Look, I didn't mean to-"
"You are the worst fucking person," Crow snapped as he got up to find his boots, “you know that?”
"I'd assumed he'd told you himself! How else would you have known?" Mallory shot back.
"Because he sent me a fucking video!" Crow shouted, "I had to get your bloody henchmen to help me find his fucking address."
"Oh. Oh, god. I didn't know, okay? Shit.”
Crow ignored him as he continued to look for his boots.
“Why were you keeping it from him, anyway?" Mallory asked.
"If he wanted me to know about what happened, he'd tell me. He didn't say anything, so I didn't want to bring up that trauma if I didn't have to."
Crow finally found his boots and pulled them on. Mallory tried to call Charlie in an attempt to get him to come back, only to have his phone ring on the coffee table. Crow left without another word, and Mallory followed. They got in the elevator together, and Crow pressed the button for the roof.
"He always goes to the roof when he's upset. I hate it. Makes me nervous," Crow explained.
"I don't like that, either," Mallory replied.
This time, though, Charlie wasn't on the roof. He was in the streets below, fighting back tears as he wandered. The sprinkling rain brought a welcome chill to his skin. He couldn't get ahold of his thoughts; his mind was racing. He wasn't sure if he was angry, or confused, or embarrassed. Really, it was a mix of all three.
Soon after he turned a corner, he noticed headlights coming from behind. He didn't think much of it, until the car pulled up a few feet ahead of him. Subconsciously, he started to walk faster, but two figures emerged from the vehicle and stood in his path. Charlie turned on his heel, but was grabbed from behind before he was able to take another step. He screamed until his mouth was covered with tape, and he had zip ties on his wrists in a matter of seconds.
He was then forced to the back of the car. One of the assailants popped the truck open, and the other forced him in. Charlie could hear laughing after it was slammed shut, and that's when he finally realized who they were. He tried to get his eyes to adjust to the darkness so he could find the emergency latch. Soon, he realized that there wasn't one. His only option was to sit tight and wait until they finally stopped.
They arrived to wherever it was about an hour later. Charlie's entire body ached from the position he was forced to lie in. The trunk opened suddenly, and he was pulled out. His legs were numb and that made it difficult to find his footing. He fell to his knees on the cold driveway. Silas picked him up and carried him into the house, despite his struggle. He threw him down in the main room.
"What were you doing, walking alone in the middle of the night like that? Didn't anyone ever tell you that's dangerous?" Kendall snickered as he ripped the tape from Charlie's face.
"Fuck you," Charlie spat.
He looked in Silas' direction when he heard a small beep. He realized there was a camcorder set up on the coffee table, connected to a laptop. Kendall stood next Charlie. He dug his fingers in his hair and yanked his head up to force him to look directly into the camera.Charlie began to struggle again until Kendall drew a revolver from his waist.
"This is Charlie. He thinks he's a tough little bastard. We're going to have some fun with him today, and he's going to cooperate, unless he'd prefer the wall behind him to be painted red," Kendall spoke to the camera.
He had the gun against Charlie's head, with his finger far too close to the trigger. Charlie stayed as still as possible to prevent his finger from slipping. Silas was leaning against the wall on his phone, typing something quickly. Kendall slowly moved the gun down until the barrel was pressed against Charlie's lips.
"Open your mouth," he said.
Charlie reluctantly let his jaw drop open. Kendall shoved the barrel into his mouth. The metal was cold against his teeth, and Charlie tried not to gag. Kendall pulled back the hammer and found delight in the fear in his eyes.
"Suck on it," he ordered.
Charlie shuddered. He could feel his face turn hot as he closed his lips around the barrel. Kendall moved the gun in and out of his mouth at a slow pace for awhile before suddenly jamming it to the back of his throat. Charlie gagged, and they laughed as Kendall finally withdrew the gun.
"That's a good boy," Kendall praised.
Charlie noticed himself shaking. He tried to hide it, but knew that it was obvious. He hated that he couldn't just force himself to get up and fight. The zip ties weren't going aid him much, anyway. Silas started to grin. He then showed his phone to Kendall.
"Oh, that's great!" Kendall exclaimed.
He grabbed Charlie's hair and made him look at the camera again.
"Say hello. There's some special guests watching you, now. They're just in time, too.”
Kendall pushed Charlie onto his back. Silas had moved quickly and pinned Charlie to the carpet.
“Be a good boy, or I’m going to beat you ‘til you’re black and blue,” Kendall threatened.
As he began to slide his pants from his waist, Charlie started to kick. In response, Kendall landed a blow right to his ribs. Charlie then tried using his legs to get free. He’d only managed to push himself backwards, halfway into Silas’s lap. Kendall scratched him as he got him undressed. The red lines stung from his hips down to his knees. Silas essentially had Charlie in a headlock now, holding him against himself. Kendall forced his legs apart, and Charlie twisted in one last-ditch effort to get away.
“You really don’t like to listen, do you? How did Mallory get you to cooperate?” Kendall spoke.
“W-What are you talking about?” Charlie breathed.
Kendall snickered as he traced his fingers along Charlie’s legs.
“Oh, I know what he did to you.”
“How?”
“That’s not important. What matters is, after all that, you still let him shag you. Seems like you’d let anyone have you, wouldn’t you? You whore.”
Kendall then forced himself in as Charlie continued to struggle under his weight. Silas’ arm tightened around his throat as he cried out.
“I get why he wants you. You feel so fucking good,” Kendall spoke.
He slipped his hands under Charlie’s shirt. Charlie shut his eyes tight as the tears welled. He did his best to hide his reaction, knowing that it would only fuel Kendall’s fire. His cold hands gripped his sides tightly, his nails digging into the skin.
“Think he wants you to go harder,” Silas quipped.
“No, no-“
Charlie yelped as Kendall did as suggested. He couldn’t stop the whimpers nor pleas escaping him now. The more he struggled, the more Silas cut off his airway. Part of him debated letting him cut it off completely. If he was unconscious, he wouldn’t have to endure it any longer; but the fear of what would be done to him while he was out prevented him from testing it. He did, however, began to dissociate. Kendall noticed this, and scratched him hard on his chest to bring him back to reality. Once he eventually finished, he lingered for a moment before moving away to get himself redressed. He pulled Charlie’s boxers back up, in which he found slight relief.
“I’ll never grow tired of that,” Kendall snickered, “I’d even go as far as saying I like fucking you more than I did Mallory.”
Silas let Charlie out of his hold for a second before forcing him to sit up. Charlie struggled to keep himself upright; he could hardly feel his legs. He was dizzy, and kept leaning over. Silas moved him to lean against his chest. He was too weak to fight him. Kendall sat cross-legged in front of them.
“What else should we make them watch us do to you, hm? Oh, I have an idea,” Kendall said.
He gripped the front of Charlie’s shirt and pulled him toward him.
“We’re gonna make out, and if you pull away at all, I’m gonna make you swallow a bullet.”
The threads in Charlie’s shirt could be heard ripping as he tried to pull back, but Kendall kept his grip. He yanked Charlie forward again and brought their faces closer together. Charlie did his best to avoid looking at him, still straining against his hold.
“And you have to actually participate. Got it?”Kendall said.
“Please, no,” Charlie murmured.
“Too bad.”
Kendall started to kiss him. Charlie was too stunned to move. He whimpered when Kendall tugged on his shirt, then kissed him back against his will. He startled when Kendall moaned against his lips. It almost made him pull away, but he stopped himself. New tears formed in his eyes as this continued. It became harder for him to persist. He was shaking; he wanted to be as far away from him as possible.
Kendall let go of his shirt and began to trail his hand down. Once Charlie realized what he was doing, he could no longer stop himself from pulling away. Kendall sighed. Charlie began to panic as he got up and reached for the gun.
“No, no, no, I’m sorry-“
“Shut up,” Kendall snapped.
He spun the chamber of the revolver. Charlie scrambled backwards, only to press against Silas again. Kendall flicked the chamber out of place and shook a bullet out into his hand before putting the gun back.
“Open up,” he said.
Charlie gave him a confused look.
“Oh, I meant it literally. Open your mouth, now.”
Silas wrapped his arms around Charlie to hold him still. Kendall grabbed his jaw and dug his fingers in to force it open. He slipped the bullet into his mouth, then pressed his hand over his lips.
“Swallow,” he ordered.
Charlie stared with wide eyes. The bullet was heavy on his tongue, and the metal reminded him of the taste of blood.
“Swallow it. Do I have to force it down your fucking throat?” Kendall snapped.
Charlie knew he didn’t have another choice. Reluctantly, he swallowed the bullet. It took a few tries, but he got it down. Kendall checked to make sure that he actually did.
“Good boy. Now, should-“
Kendall was cut off by the sound of glass shattering. A rock had been thrown through the window on the back door. Kendall grabbed the gun, then forced Charlie to his feet. He held him in front of him, using him as a human shield. He shot at the door as a hand came through the window and unlocked the door from the inside. As the door swung open, he fired again, missing by a large margin. Crow came through the door, gun drawn. Mallory was right behind him. Kendall readied the next shot, but instead of firing at them, he pressed the barrel against the side of Charlie’s head.
“Stay the fuck back!” Kendall shouted.
Without hesitation, Crow fired. Charlie heard the revolver click as Kendall fell. He was paralyzed until Crow grabbed him, pulling him into a tight hug.
“Come on,” Crow murmured as he let him go.
Mallory gave him a quick hug before they started out the door. Charlie glanced back at Kendall and the blood pooling underneath him.
The ride home was silent at first. Charlie rested his head against the window. He watched the scenery fly by, trying to distract his mind. He caught Mallory adjusting the rear view mirror every once in awhile to look at him. Once back at his apartment, Charlie asked both of them to stay with him. They agreed, of course. Charlie had a feeling that they were going to stay whether he had asked them to or not. He decided to take a long shower. The water was so hot that it had reddened his skin.
He got dressed for bed and announced that he was going to try to sleep. He exchanged hugs with both of them, and Mallory kissed his forehead. Charlie left his door open a crack before climbing in to bed. He didn’t want to sleep alone, but at least they were nearby, should he need them. He managed to fall asleep fairly quickly, but woke up sobbing soon after. Crow and Mallory immediately came into the room when they heard him. They sat on either side of him, assuring him that he was safe until he was able to go back to sleep. They ended up staying there for the rest of the night.

Hero opened their eyes slowly. Their head was pounding and they were laying down on a hard surface.
They tried to move their hand to get their hair out of their face but something stopped them.
They looked down at their wrist and found a leather cuff wrapped around it. The inside was soft and when they pulled against it, it didn't hurt.
At least they're being nice to me.
Hero put their head back down and closed their eyes.
The door to their room slammed open. Hero winced and opened their eyes.
Villain walked in with a smile. "Good morning sleeping beauty. Ready to get patched up?"
"You couldn't have done that while I was asleep?" They asked angrily pulling at the cuffs.
Villain laughed as a doctor walked into the room.
"That wouldn't be any fun." Villain said stepping next to Hero. They smiled down at them and poked at the cut on Hero's forehead.
Hero winced. "You're just an asshole. You know that right?" Hero ground out.
Villain laughed as Doctor stepped to their other side.
"That was the nicest thing you could have said to me." They said putting their hand over their heart.
"Numbing or not." Doctor asked laying out their tools on the table next to Hero.
Villain met eyes with Hero. "Not."
"Fuck you." Hero said pulling at the cuffs harder.
"Villain I am going to need you to hold the patient still as I close the wound on their forehead." Doctor said sharply grabbing what they needed.
Villain nodded and moved behind Hero's head. They grabbed Hero's head and held it firmly.
Hero whimpered as Doctor bent over them.
"Let's begin." They said.
Hero yelped as Doctor started closing up their wound.
---------
Doctor finally set down their tools. Hero had passed out multiple times, and every time they woke back up Doctor was still patching them up.
Villain stood from the chair they had moved to after Doctor was done closing up Hero's head wound.
"Thank you Doctor. I will call you if I need your services again."
Doctor nodded and shook Villain's hand. "You know I'll be there as fast as I can."
Doctor left the room.
Hero shifted and whimpered. Villain turned their attention to them.
They walked to their side and started undoing their cuffs.
"Now you're all patched up."
Hero put their hands over their eyes and took a deep breath.
"So that means I can go?"
Villain laughed and pulled Hero into their arms. "Of course not. I have plans for you."
Hero pulled their hands down and pushed themselves out of Villain's arms.
They stood and faced Villain. "I'm not staying with you."
Villain stepped close to them and Hero raised their fists.
Villain's smile fell. "If you think that you can just walk out of here when I have plans for you." Villain grabbed Hero's wrist and pinned it to the wall behind them. "You must have lost more than blood during that procedure."
Hero jabbed at Villain. Villain moved out of the way and grabbed their wrist pinning it to the wall. They leaned in close until their nose was touching Hero's.
"I can make your life here a living hell." They whispered.
Hero struggled against their grip. "It already has been a living hell."
Villain grabbed both of Hero's wrists with one hand pulling them above Hero's head against the wall. With their other hand they grabbed Hero's jaw.
Hero shook her head. "No. No. No." It only came out as a soft mumble from behind her gag.
Sidekick sighed and rolled his eyes. "Stop mumbling. It's making you look weak."
Hero glared at him and pulled at the ropes that tied her to the chair.
If I could just...
Hero felt a knot close to her fingers and smiled.
Untie myself from the chair I could...
Footsteps got louder and Hero snapped her head to the staircase. Villain stepped into the kitchen and smiled at Hero.
"Hero. I'm so glad to see you again."
That voice sent shivers down Hero's spine.
Sidekick stood and Villain walked over to him.
"Nice work." Villain turned to Hero and grabbed her face moving it in every direction. "No bruises. No injuries. I'm impressed."
He let go( of her face and sat across from her. "And the gag is a nice touch."
Hero glared at both Sidekick and Villain and let out a string of swear words.
Which came out as a soft mumble.
Villain smiled and pulled a pile of papers from his briefcase.
"We are going to keep that gag in place so I can go over the changes to your contract in peace."
Hero's eyes widened. Changes?
She started frantically picking at the knot she could reach as Villain cleared his throat.
"First, we are extending your contract. Right now you only have a month left, but because you disappeared for two and didn't bring back what you were supposed to we are adding three months to your contract."
Hero whimpered.
Villain ignored her. "Second, seeing as though your first mentor didn't seem to change any of your behaviors we are reassigning Sidekick to be your mentor."
Hero glared at Sidekick.
"I accept." He said with a sly grin.
Hero shook her head and looked down at her lap.
Finally.
She got the knot untied and her hands were not connected to the chair anymore. She pulled the rope close to her and set it down on the chair.
"Finally..." Villain looked at Hero. "Actually this one I want her to be able to talk to us. Sidekick could you?"
Sidekick walked in front of Hero and put a finger under her chin pushing her head up.
"I'd be happy to." He grabbed one side of the tape and in one swift motion ripped it off.
Hero winced.
He pulled the sock out of her mouth and dropped it into her lap.
He moved back behind Villain.
"Now Hero, this is your time to say anything you would..."
"Fuck you."
Hero stood and sprinted towards the stairs with her hands still tied behind her back.
All I have to do is get upstairs and into my bedroom and I can lock my door.
She started up the stairs.
I can do this. I can...
A hand wrapped around her ankle. She fell hard onto the stairs hitting her shoulder and head.
She turned and saw Sidekick holding her ankle.
"Why. Can't. You. Just. Leave. Me. Alone?" She punctuated each word with a kick towards Sidekick.
Sidekick grabbed her other ankle and pulled her down the stairs. He grabbed her arm and pulled her to her feet.
"Because I'm your mentor now and I can't let you fail again."
He pushed her back to the chair. "Anyone got handcuffs?"
Someone threw him handcuffs and he caught them effortlessly and bent down behind Hero.
He clasped one cuff around her left wrist tightly. He wove the other cuff around the back of the chair and clasped the other tightly around her other wrist.
He untied the rope and tisked at the rope burns she had. "Shame you couldn't stop yourself from hurting yourself. We will work on that."
She struggled against the cuffs and glared at Sidekick as he walked back behind Villain.
Villain chuckled. "This situation leads perfectly into the last change to the contract."
"Perfect I'm so excited to hear the bullshit you're going to make me do." Hero mumbled as she continued to pull at the handcuffs.
"Being the most defiant member we've had you will be the only student Sidekick has." Villain continued.
Hero froze.
"You will no longer do outside missions alone, Sidekick will go with you so we don't have a repeat of what happened two months ago."
Hero started shaking her head. "No. No."
"And lastly Sidekick is allowed to decide what kind of punishments he feels are necessary to make you start to follow the rules."
Sidekick stepped to Villain's side. "I am happy to do so. Hero will be following the rules in no time. I promise."
"Don't go." Villain whined. They pulled Hero closer to them.
Hero giggled. "I have to. I need to go take a test and get some groceries."
Villain pouted. "Fine. But hurry back. I'll make dinner."
Hero smiled and kissed Villain. "I'll try. See you soon."
Hero grabbed their bag and left the apartment.
They made their way down the street and pulled their headphones out of their bag.
They looked over their notes as Taylor Swift played in their headphones.
"Final test. We can do this." They said softly to themselves.
Someone stepped right in front of them and they ran into them sending them both to the ground.
Hero got up fast pulling their headphones from their ears. "I'm so sor..."
Supervillain stood smiling down at Hero.
"Were you following me?" Hero took a step back. "Why can't you just be ok with me dating your golden child?" Hero asked angrily picking up their notes.
"Because I need my, as you so nicely put it, golden child for important things." Supervillain whistled and grabbed Hero's arm. "One of those things is happening tonight."
Hero threw their notes and jabbed at Supervillain.
Supervillain caught their fist with a laugh. "Cute."
Hero pulled against Supervillains grip. "What are you going to do with me?"
A black car pulled up next to them. "Nothing much. I just need you out of the way so that Villain can focus."
Hero's eyes widened. "So you're..."
The door to the van slid open. Supervillain smiled and threw Hero into the van. "Yes. I'm kidnapping you." They climbed in after Hero and slammed the door shut.
Hero dove towards the back door. Supervillain laughed and grabbed their leg. "And as I think about it. Either Villain will focus because you're not there, or..."
Supervillain slowly pulled Hero closer. They grabbed Hero's arms and pinned them to the floor.
"I get the honor of using you as a bargaining chip." Supervillain smiled as Hero whimpered. "I think that's considered a win win."
Villain was roughly tossed into Civilian's bedroom. He hit the ground hard and swore under his breath.
The two guards walked in after him and shut the door.
"What to do with you." The Guard on the left said cracking his knuckles.
"You guys going to tell me your names before we start this or do I have to make them up?" Villain said standing up wiping away the dust from his pants.
The guards looked between each other and smiled.
"Fine." Villain pointed to the one that crackled their knuckles. "You're bonehead." He pointed to the other one. "And you're just stupid."
An ear piercing scream traveled through the apartment. Villain froze and stared at the door.
That was Civilian.
"Guess that's our cue." Stupid said. They rushed Villain and caught him by his waist.
Villain pushed against their shoulders. "What is he doing to her?"
Bonehead came over and grabbed Villain's hands pinning them to the ground.
Civilian let out another scream.
"You have to help me stop him." Villain said angrily. "You're ok with what he's doing?"
Another scream ripped through the apartment.
"You're ok with him hurting her?"
Bonehead laughed. "I didn't know you actually cared about her. I thought that was just to save face. Who knew she had you wrapped around her fucking finger."
Bonehead let go of Villain's wrists and punched him in the face. "Pull him up." They ordered.
Stupid looked at Villain with pity.
Sadness.
"Come on get him up." Bonehead said again.
A softer scream came from outside the door.
"Doesn't sound like we have much time left." Stupid stood and pulled Villain to his feet.
"I'm sorry" They whispered as they pulled his hands behind his back.
Bonehead stood and faced Villain. They smiled and punched Villain in the stomach. Stupid held Villain back as Bonehead kept going.
There was a knock on the door and Bonehead stopped.
"Have you finished what we talked about?" Ex's slimy voice oozed through the door.
Bonehead looked at Villain who was relying on Stupid to hold him up. There was blood dripping from his lip and his black eye had already started swelling.
"We have." Bonehead said with a smile.
"Perfect. Let's compare work and see what needs to be done next."
Bonehead went to Villain's side and helped Stupid carry him out the door and into the living room.
Villain gasped.
Blood was everywhere.
There was glass scattered everywhere. The coffee table by the couch had been over turned and a bloody knife had been driven into it.
Villain searched the room until he saw Civilian lying in a heap behind the couch.
"Damn Ex. What'd you do?" Bonehead asked stepping away from Villain. "Looks like a Pollock in here."
Villain staggered and collapsed to the ground.
"Well that is her favorite artist, so I had to help spruce up the place, you know."
Villain rolled his eyes. "No he isn't." He whispered. He crawled towards Civilian. "Civilian."
Ex waved him off. "You can try. She passed out and hasn't woken back up." He turned to Bonehead and Stupid. "So what did you end up doing?"
Bonehead started telling him all about how they had beat the crap out of Villain, while Stupid looked at Civilian with sadness.
Villain ignored them and got to Civilian's side. He softly touched her shoulder. "Civilian." He whispered.
She stirred and winced cracking her eyes open. "You look like hell." She said softly with a laugh.
Villain smiled. "You're not in a place to talk." He traced a cut on her face that went from her forehead to her nose. "What did he do to you?"
"I'm so glad you asked." Ex said smiling down at them. He grabbed Civilian by the hair and pulled her to her feet.
She winced, but didn't claw at his hand. Instead she held her right hand close to her body.
"Exibit A." He grabbed the hand she was cradling. She winced and started breathing fast. Her hand hung limp, and her wrist had started to bruise.
Broken.
"This is for the art she had on her walls. Due to the contract she signed there will be three more of these." He let her hand drop and grabbed the other one.
There was a stab wound in her palm with blood dripping down her arm. "Exibit B. This is for trying to get a restraining order on me."
He dropped that hand and smiled at Villain who was glaring daggers at him.
"There are many more, but we don't have much time." Ex started pointing at the various bruises. "For not returning my calls."
He pointed at the cut on her face as well as a few more. "For not returning my texts."
He let go of her hair and she dropped to the floor, scurrying as fast as she could to Villain. Villain pulled her close and wrapped his arms around her.
"There will be many more punishments, but unfortunately she passed out on me." He chuckled. "And that's no fun."
"You're a psychopath." Villain said through gritted teeth. "What did she ever do to you?"
Ex's smile fell. "She didn't follow the rules. She thought she could get me to fall in love with her and give her everything I had just so she could leave." He banged his hand on the counter. "Just like all the rest."
"That's not true." Civilian said softly.
Ex turned his attention to her. "What did you say?"
She swallowed. "I said that's not true."
Ex snapped and Bonehead grabbed Civilian prying her from Villain's arms. He pulled her to her feet so she was facing Ex.
Ex shook his head and smiled. "Would you like to say that to me again."
Civilian glared at him. "That's not true. I loved you. I didn't care that you were rich. I would have loved you even if you weren't. You were my everything." She stepped forward. "I loved you up until the day you made me sign that contract. Then I knew that I had been wrong about you the whole time. I thought you loved me back, but no."
Ex stepped forward opening his mouth.
"I was just property to you. Maybe that's why every other girl left. Best Friend will never love you the way I did, because she is looking for someone with money. I wasn't. I wasn't trying to use you. I was..."
Ex slapped his hand over her mouth. "You're a liar." He whispered.
"No she isn't." Villain said sharply.
Ex growled and motioned for Stupid. Stupid came over and pulled Villain to his feet.
"No more talk. We've got plans for you two." Ex pushed past Civilian and quickly exited the apartment.

Hacker stared at the screen. Their face had paled. They shook their head and turned to their other monitor.
"Did you get all of that?" They asked Officer on the other screen.
Officer nodded. "Looks like we have a warrant we need to get."
