Reality Bender Whump

because they are extremely underutilized and I love them so here's some prompts (and some recs at the end) :>

As a whumper:

Whumpee being at the mercy of someone so powerful they can not even comprehend it

Does Whumpee even recognize their situation? Even if they do, can they do anything about it?

If they don't realize what is happening: What does it take for it to become clear?

TIMELOOPS!!

Whumpee being literally trapped in a reality that bends and changes simply to keep tormenting them

As a whumpee (most of my reality bender OCs are whumpees actually haha):

Who is their tormenter? Someone stronger than them? Another reality bender? What is strong enough to torture a being that can change reality itself?

Whumpee not being able to control their powers fully, or not being able to realize what they are doing

Whumpee being the very thing that is creating their own worst nightmare. How do you even deal with that? How do you escape that?

Lab Whump, Lab Whump, Lab Whump

What does it feel like to be under the influence of a reality anchor?

Whumper being someone who wants to use Whumpees powers for their own goals

Reality changing around them to reflect Whumpee's mental state

Changing themselves to try and become something that can escape their torment

SCP 3999 and SCP 4231 are some of this (highly recommend both, but don't forget to check the trigger warnings! They get very dark)!

older whumpblr stories appreciation!

the other day i started reminiscing about the stories that got me into whumpblr circa 2018, when i first began lurking, through 2020 when i finally made a blog and got involved. soooo: appreciation post time! here's a list of some stories i read way back when and still think of fondly. i'm also gonna make a project out of rereading and reblogging at least parts of these.

without further ado:

@wildfaewhump's talvos and iesin (fae lab whump!), and also their pathverse (institutionalized superpower whump) (zipper lore: pathverse is what finally convinced me to make a blog!)

@friendlylocalwhumper's lux and the hunter (captivity & magic whump) and marlow (honestly i remember less plot and more aesthetics from that one but it was such a vibe)

@robins-whump's finn saga (captivity whump) (i have a really vivid memory of reading this between classes in high school and then having to go into class all dazed with whumpy thoughts lol)

i see a lot of people posting about a lot of shows in the whump community, some more than others, and i have to say i'm really suprised that Merlin isn't one of them because there is so. much. whump. i'm not kidding; like every other episode someone gets whumped. every single recurring character has been whumped at some point, though the most common whumpees by far are Arthur and Merlin. i have to get on my knees and beg that if you, a whump fan, have not watched Merlin that you get on it, especially if you're a fan of fantasy whump because oh my god.

we have both magic whump (spells and curses) and 'regular' whump (people being beaten up, stabbed, knocked out etc)

there's a big found family element between the main characters. Merlin, Arthur, Gwen and Morgana (in the early series) are all very protective of each other and have great chemistry. Gaius is literally Merlin's father figure.

emotional whump galore! especially with Merlin. he's supposed to be in his late teens/early twenties and he acts accordingly. the weight of his destiny is a lot for him to bear, and he has to keep it completely to himself (aside from the dragon and Gaius) there are so many moments where you see this pure, unfiltered pain on his face as he struggles under the weight of it all. Colin Morgan is a phenomenal actor.

the fandom is still active. the show has been off the air for 13 years with no signs of ever coming back and the fandom is still very much active. new fanfic is posted every day. its beautiful. nature is healing.

on top of all the whumpy goodness, its a fantastic show. the effects are a little dated but overall i'd say it's held up very well. i can't recommend it enough.

Ok, I've just watched a playthrough for the game Dispatch. And excuse me? Exxxccuuuse me?? The protagonist boi has no businesses being such a noble hero (or a broken anti-hero, that's up to the player) with puppy eyes, getting whumped and regularly undressed to showcase his scars and bruises in every episode! Mr. Game, sir, what are you doing??

Y'all YALL!! I just finished the most beautiful, whumpiest show I have EVER seen and you must all go watch it RIGHT NOW!

It's called Patriot on Amazon Prime. I know the name makes it seem like some NCIS/Jack Ryan type thing but I PROMISE it is not! It is deeply funny, dark, and beautiful. Not only is this show just a gorgeous work of art technically: shot composition, cinematography, writing, acting, the music (THE MUSIC HOLY MOLY), etc. the whump??? THE WHUMP?? ELITE TIER!! GOD TIER!!

I won't go too much into it so you can see for yourself but the main character is a spy and just....just a sad little guy all the time. The emotions I tell you!! I feasted! Literally, I am not exaggerating when I say every episode could be a gif set. This sad little guy is just FULL of trauma, PTSD, dissociation, multiple concussions (later on)...it's just so good. The show had only two seasons, and the ending I suppose is "acceptable" but I NEED y'all to watch it so we can lament together about how we were ROBBED of the JUCIEST WHUMPIEST third season (the show creator said the third season would have been about self healing - LITERALLY a whole season dedicated to aftercare/comfort)

Anyway, yelling over, please my lovelies you need to watch this show because I know you won't be disappointed
