Tolkien fact of the day!

In the early third age, before the Years of the Stewards, there was a Ruling Queen who was evil and used cats to spy on people. Her name was Berùthiel. Which is Sindarin for Angry Queen. Yeah.

Berúthiel was a Black Númenórian, a descendant of the evil, Melkor worshipping, human sacrificing, bad people who led to the fall of Númenór. The Black Númenórians were at war with the Dúnedain rather often.

Which is why it's weird that Tarannon Falastur would marry her.

Anyway, she lived away from her husband in Osgiliath, because she didn't like the harbor city where Falastur lived. While in Osgiliath, she filled the King's House with horrifying statues that made everyone nervous. She also attracted cats for some reason. She wasn't happy about that, because she hated cats, but she enjoyed torturing and enslaving them.

She had nine black cats and one white. The black cats would be sent to spy on the Dúnedain nobles, and the white cat would spy on the black ones. Apparently she didn't even trust her black cats. The white one was fully under her control however.

She would read the cats' memories and see the secrets of the Dúnedain, likely feeding information to Sauron or the Witch King.

Eventually Tarannor banished her and sent her and her cats back to her southern homeland. She was last seen on a ship, still with a cat thing going on. Gondor remembered the mistrust of cats and that is, I believe, why black cats are notorious.

Anyone who had read N.D. Wilson's book series "100 Cupboards" is likely to find this extra disturbing.

I kid you not. My cats know exactly when I'm thinking of finishing a break and going back to drawing/coloring and do everything in their power to prevent it. (My laptop flips around so I can draw on the screen, and I typically lay on my stomach to art)

my dash is covered in talk about a destiel Cats fic, and as a lover of musical theater I’ve gotta say... I hate Cats. I hate Cats. I don’t want to read a destiel Cats fic.

But now I’m learning that it’s written by the Poet Dean fic author so now I have to read a Cats fic and I’m probably going to like it god damn it.
