Hey, can I ask why you and others reblog pictures with descriptions? Is it for certain mobile phones?

I’ve answered this question in my about page, but the short story is that I make image descriptions because:

1. some people are blind/partially blind and use text-to-speech programs to process images. Some are colorblind and a description helps them understand what’s depicted.

2. some images are hard to make anything out of, maybe because they’re too busy, have text that are too small or go too fast etc. Some people might have difficulties recognizing faces. A description can then help immensely.

3. some people have slow internet access or have limited memory and it’s easier using mods that block images and gifs. Without a caption, those images remain hidden.

It all boils down to making things more accessible! I don’t always have the time or energy to do it, but making them is still helpful for people, so I try my best. I hope this answers your question :)

Totally legitimate question... Why do you caption things? I've never seen photos captioned, only videos and I'm genuinely curious

Oh man, I’m not sure when you sent this ask, but I just put up a link to a post from another blogger that explains very nicely why it’s important to caption images (you can find it under “navigation”). The main reason is to make posts accessible to a wider audience:

1. By captioning, I make posts accessible to blind and visually impaired people who use text-to-speech programs. It’s also useful for people with colorblindness and for people who simply find it difficult to process images and find text easier to understand. Sometimes the text on gifs and graphics is too small or go too fast for some people to read. Sometimes an image can be busy and confusing and it can be hard to catch the important aspects/meaning behind an image. A well worded caption can then help immensely.

2. Some people have slow internet access or limited memory and it’s easier to use mods that block images and gifs. Without a caption, images remain hidden. Even if you don’t block images, the slow internet access is often not able to load all images in. The caption can then tell you what you’re missing if you can’t see, for instance, some of the gifs in a set.

I’m still learning how to caption and all, and since english isn’t my first language, I find it difficult at times to describe what I’m seeing. But practice makes perfect! I hope this answers your question.
