So, I'm driving home yesterday after work, as one does, and I'm listening to the radio, because I have the soul of a 55 year old man, and the commercials come on, because of course they do.

Anyway, this particular ad is promoting the new Disney movie, Mufasa, about which I know maybe two degrees more than nothing. It's a Disney movie, right? And a prequel to The Lion King? And... I think it's the live-action one?

I was a 90s kid obsessed with The Lion King, but this all does nothing for me. I watch 0.3 movies a year and the live action remakes are none of them.

So this is about all the exposure I've had to Mufasa, and 14.5 hours later, I've already forgotten most of it--except that I was gobsmacked that it somehow has Timon and Pumbaa (or things that SOUND AN AWFUL LOT LIKE TIMON AND PUMBAA) and then there was what I assume from context is the voice of Mufasa and--

IT SOUNDS NOTHING LIKE JAMES EARL JONES! NOTHING! WE LIVE IN AN AGE OF DEEP-FAKES AND AI AND REALLY TALENTED VOICE ACTORS--WHY IN THE NAME OF SNOW WHITE'S SEVEN DWARFS DID THAT SOUND LIKE CHRIS PRATT????

I will be doing zero research into this and I will never see this movie. That may not have been Mufasa's voice. That may not have been Chris Pratt. It may have been some innocuous prequel character voiced by some innocuous and underpaid voice actor.

Doesn't matter--I got "the kind of humour and the kind of voice acting that comes from a Chris Pratt movie" vibes from this commercial and was turned off.
