@cute-ellyna this is you, to me.
I'm editing my "End of Summer", and there's a thing that has been bothered me for a while, and maybe some of you can help?
So, I have this lore that Ayanne used to dance when she was younger, right? And I usually talk about it in a very "modern" way: dance classes, dance teacher, dance shows and so on. I'm not a lore purist, so that's generally fine enough for me. But of course I'm well aware that doesn't really fit in a Dalish context. I can picture the clan having a group who dances, and I can see them doing it more "formally" during some special events, along with other people playing music. And yes, maybe there's someone who teaches children traditional steps, but that's probably it? It's hard to imagine something more structured than that? So, I really don't want to abandon the idea of Ayanne dancing, and the dance teacher is a very important figure in my headcanon (and yes, he has to be related to dance because it's his fault Ayanne stops dancing), but I'm not sure how to make everything sound less "modern"? Any ideas or thoughts on that?
So... first of all, thank you <3
I've been thinking about this the whole afternoon and did some light research, and here's where I might going with this.
So, the dance is definitely some traditional dance, maybe a cultural representation of something (as @fadetouchedlurker suggested, they could tell a story through the dance: Elgar'nan and Mythal, the creation of the halla, etc etc). Ayanne is 17 during the fic and she's been dancing since she was like 4yo, and one of my doubts was "ok, why should she still have someone teaching her to dance, and why should she go to rehearsals like twice a week, hasn't she learnt all the possible steps by now?" (<- yeah, I know nothing about dances lol). But traditional dances usually have very precise movements, where each position might have its own specific deep meaning, and if we think about the dance as the storytelling of some important dalish lore, it's suddenly very important to be precise about it. Also, dancing is tiring, so you've got to stay in shape :nods: So, yeah, that's how I'm gonna explain her having to "train" as a dancer like every week (when you're a kid you probably do some very easy dances, and growing up there are some important roles that you might take during these representations, maybe? Idk, I'm still brainstorming, okay?)
And bout the infamous dance teacher.... yeah, first of all I'm gonna revisit the words I'm using to call him (thanks @rookamell <3), but you guys also made me realize something. In this new context, he's probably too young to be the only one choreographing these dances, and there's certainly some elder with much more experience behind it. But he might be something like a "professional" dancer, someone who's playing the "leading role", (a lead dancer? Is that a thing?), so yes, he's got the experience because he's done that before, but even better, he's got to dance WITH Ayanne (so many more occasions for her to flirt with him, and so many more occasions for Adahlen to die inside while watching them).
I'm quite happy with what I've got up to now? Again, thank you so much to everyone for the communal brainstorming :D
PS/EDIT: oh, a little side note. Ayanne is not a lead dancer herself. A very important pillar in building her as a character is that she might be good but she's never "first" in anything (unlike Adahlen, btw). She's a mage but isn't the clan First, she's generally a late bloomer, she got her vallaslin "late", she arrives late to appointments, and so on. Which sets the perfect background for her as Rook as the "just another guy" trope. She's not used and does not consider herself as the leading role of anything.

Assan, I love you boy, don't want to lose you. But they're your family; I understand if you want to go with them. It's up to you.
Attack for nobelbandit of Oak and Davrin!
It is Manfred who first discovers it, you guys.
“Pictures!” He tells Rook, because Rook is good to share things with. They make the appropriate sounds of appreciation, and sometimes bounce on their feet.
“Oh very nice,” Rook says, clearly not understanding the scope of Manfred’s discovery. This is not something he has drawn.
“No!” He insists, taking their hand and placing the crystal in it. “Pictures.”
Rook stops, and stares open mouthed at the vibrant play of color and memory unfolding in the air of the Fade in front of them.
“Ohhhh,” they say, with an appropriate level of amazement. Very good. Manfred rattles with appreciation.
The Fade, it turns out, is FULL of people’s crystalized dreams, not just Solas’s. Big ones, small ones, some as big as Solas’s head.
The Veilguard starts to make a casual hobby of it as they traipse around the Crossroads, picking up active, vibrant stones to stuff into their pockets for later that night when they will gather and watch them over one of Lucanis’s snack trays.
Taash finds a shocking amount of dragon fights, which they watch in a series that they call “dragon week.”
Lucanis and Bellara prefer dramatic memories of emotional meetings and sordid love triangles, which are also in abundance, and which never seem to resolve cleanly.
“I’m not sure we should be watching any of these,” Emmrich says dubiously, “it doesn’t feel entirely ethical. We viewed Solas’s memories to save the world.”
“Okay,” Rook says, pouring him some tea while the others munch on wisp made popcorn. “But I found a whole little brood of crystals with the memories of some king from the Steel Age. Very historical. I’m sure you wouldn’t have any interest in…”
“…well. If it's for research…”
Manfred hisses and crunches the popcorn which falls harmlessly through his ribs.
Silly little comic I made :3 💜

An interesting game where you are presented with 10 artifacts from the MET. You have to place where the artifact is from and what time period it is from. Each artifact scores up to 10,000 points, and you lose points the further away your guess is and how far off in time you are. You can only play once a day. Thanks to @baebeylik for showing this to me.
Today I scored really well. Yesterday ... not so much.

Thanks for the tag @serensama and @mythals-whore <3 I'm too lazy to make one for my OCs too, but here's mine :)
These are also good colors for Ayanne (except for the purple) who was very very accidentally born on my same day :nods:
