I’m in an overwhelmingly, irredeemably tory constituancy so on a local level I really don’t have a vote that counts, I usually vote labour for the largest majority anti-tory second place and the inclusion in national stats. However we’re in a stupid situation where this general election stats are being used to argue what the public think about brexit, and I don’t feel able to vote labour while they wont oppose it. obviously libdems are anti brexit and are campaigning on the basis of Being a vote to stop brexit but so often voting liberal is a classic case of the left splitting the vote and being ineffectual. Of course I agree that one should vote tactically, meaning unify and be labour, anything to oust the tories, of course, but as I’ve said there is literally no hope for my tory county. If it’s about taking the oppurtunity of a useless vote to register what you would Prefer, then of course Libs or Greens is a great choice for me, and in fact both of those parties are having a real spike in the face of a) being the only ones opposing brexit and b) the climate emergency, and theres a high chance of them two joining forces and actually having some sort of weight for once. and if that were to happen without me because i wasted my vote on a doomed idea for both county and country that *also* resulted in my vote being used for pro brexit results i would be crushed. ultimately of course, on paper, it doesnt matter, and the fact that it doesn’t matter is a) horrifying and b) makes all these secondary, more abstract, debatable concepts feel more important somehow. and of course (this wont happen) but if miraculously a tactical vote were to work and labour take the seat (which wont happen) which is clearly the politically sensible thing to attempt (which wont happen), and I ruin it by going off and being idealist, that would be beyond crushing (but that wont happen)
