The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is reporting that for the year 2017, participation in the WIC program, i.e., Women, Infant, and Children welfare program is at a 17-year low in 2017.

This is a handy PDF from the EPA on specific low cost or free things you can do to prevent lead poisoning.  So if you live in old housing that might have lead paint or where the soil is contaminated with lead (old paint was stripped off house, gasoline) this gives you concrete stuff to do to A) cut exposure B) help keep body from absorbing it.

It also has a section of recipes for high calcium and high iron foods, with MOST of the recipes focusing on using food you can get through WIC. Since they're focused on cheap and easily available foods, its also handy reference if you need to focus on getting more iron or calcium in diet.
