White Crest Children’s Songs: The Ragman (Headcanon)
This is just meant to be a random example of one of the cheerful kid freindlsy songs Sam and other White Crest born citizens would’ve heard growing up. I don’t pretend to be a poet, this is just meant for vibe more than anything else.
This song refers to the Rag And Bone Man
Your skin he’ll take to hide his face
Your hair he’ll take for straw
Tendons make for fine lace
The Ragman comes.
They gave him bones for handles
Scraps leftover from their meal
Sold him grease to make our soap
Wood to mend a broken wheel
Till they offered him a length of rope
Strung him up that long dark night
Swaying dead amongst the corn
A lonely sight come the morning light
But still the Ragman comes

Haven’t done one of these music things before, but this song is on my playlist stuff for Adam because the lyrics take on a darker meaning if it’s a Hunter singing to their kid. The monsters are very literal in this case, and “even me my dear” part speaks to the constantly facing nightmarish creatures doesn’t get much easier with time. Overall it hints at the very morbid aspects of Adam/Hunters’ childhoods and how fast they have to grow up.
The Lilitu: Birth of the Fae (Hunter mythology )
((This is merely a Headcanon of the beliefs of a specific sect of Hunter thought that Adam’s family ascribes to. Its not meant to be taken as truthful))
Know initiate, that our reality is merely one of many. Time, linear causation, gravity, matter, space, and light are merely illusions specific to our tiny fleck of cosmos. There exist entirely separate realities in which these concepts have no meaning, universes that are governed by alien laws that our senses cannot comprehend nor our language express.
But in antediluvian prehistory, entities of these other dimensions crossed the void into our plane of existence. Fanciful parables refer to Demons as ‘fallen angels’ or ‘evil spirits’, we know them to be merely profoundly alien beings, the truest Other. They came in madness inducing forms that defied the evolutionary order of our planet and could alter the equilibrium of reality through pure intent, an art crudely referred to as “magic.”
In their ignorance, primitive mankind called these aliens “gods.”
Before our kind arose by means yet unknown, humanity was defenseless against these monstrous false deities, and entire civilizations lived and died according to their unknowable whims. With some favored slaves and overseers, Demonkind shared eldritch sciences and secrets underpinning the cosmos, creating the first witches. But the masses were merely a rich banquet of life and souls to feed the gods’ insatiable appetites. Great were the unrivaled achievements of this lost age, but greater still were depths of horror and brutality that have mercifully faded into myth.
But a creature known as Lilith saw greater potential in this slave species and sought to blur the line between Demon and mortal. All previous attempts at intermingling human and demon blood had resulted in brutish aberrations without sentience that we now know as ‘monsters.’ But such was Lilith’s mastery over the secrets of life itself that she succeeded where others had failed, creating beings with true mortal souls and demonic magic coursing through their veins.
Over the millennia these human-alien hybrids were called many things: “Cambion” “Anunnaki” “Mazikeen”. But as their bloodlines stabilized and they slowly gained a more terrestrial semblance, one overarching term came to describe many disparate kinds of dual-natured beings.

If we could learn to like ourselves, even a little, maybe our cruelties and angers might melt away.
