where do Animals use the bathroom, in or out
I think it’d depend on the Animal species, the setting, and at what point in time we’re talking about. Species example: an animal that can go bi-pedal (or is already bi-pedal), such as Dulci-bear, can probably use a toilet more or less like a human, so long as the toilet fit them— but someone like Dr. Dillamond and Feldspar who have hooves and are stuck on all fours? There’s definitely something else they’d have to use.
So, I think that originally, in the olden days of Oz, there would be different sized toilets for bi-pedal Animals (i.e a ferret vs a stork vs a bear— all can balance on two legs, but have wildly different sizes) in the same room as the human bathrooms, and then something like a large stall with a giant litter box for Animals that are stuck on all four limbs or simply couldn't position themselves for a normal toilet. In any case, I think that when people didn’t hate Animals, their bathrooms would be very similar in location to the humans, and most would use them indoors same as humans. And that more run-down places may have less Animal-accessible bathrooms, similar to a lack of disabled-accessible infrastructure in the real world.
However, we heard Dr. Dillamond say that since the Great Drought, there was a rejection of Animal culture. Additionally, it was shown that many blamed Animal obesity.
So I think it’s safe to assume that at some point, Animal bathrooms became more rare as an attempt to make them eat less (if you can’t eat, you can’t shit) and as a way to divide them from human bathrooms. Like reverse segregation— instead of separation, they simply don’t exist. This could also be a tactic to make Animals seem “unclean” (a major point in the ten stages of genocide, labeling others as vermin) as they would eventually be forced to take dookies outside, and may gain infections (making them appear unhealthy) due to holding in their urine or waste. Plus, that’s good propaganda. “Look, Animals are so evil and unclean, they’re literally shitting on our infrastructure!”
All in all: I believe that Animals (city Animals, not like the ones who lived naturally in the forest like the Cowardly Lion) would have used the bathroom indoors once-upon-a-time, but given the Animal discrimination, they may be forced to dookie outside under the rule of the Wizard.
