I completely agree with your thoughts on the 'I dreamed of you' line (as a lurker in the JB Book Snob club), and you've summed up the dichotomy of Jaime's lack of game and his romantic & poetic nature very well
Haha, hopefully we won’t get kicked out for thinking that. :) Our fam goes really hype for that line, and I’m always like “It’s only shippy out of context though?” But ahh, I’ve always loved the “In this light” line more, so maybe I’m biased. :P
Yes, I think it’s so interesting that while he doesn’t speak the best game, his mind and nature are very romantic and poetic. I think he has trouble conversing his usually sensitive and poetic thoughts into speech because A. He has little practice in doing that, seeing as he’s only been around one woman for most of his life, a woman he doesn’t need to spit game to and B. The world that he lives in does not encourage men to express themselves in such a manner — quite the opposite, in fact.
I really think being with Brienne more, feeling comfortable with her, will eventually cause him to say more of what he feels (probably in an assholish way, because he’s a tsundere, but hey, baby steps). What makes me sad is that even if Jaime tells Brienne the more softer, romantic / poetic things he thinks about her, like the “in this light” line, or her astonishing eyes, she wouldn’t believe it because of her low self esteem. It would take a long time for her to genuinely believe it, but she trusts him, so I have faith she’d believe it eventually.
