Omg.
The scenes were there, in the script, ones that fleshed out Boq and Nessa. (The fact that Boq and Nessa were put in the background is one of my few complaints about the movie).
I like this, I really do, I reread the book in preparation for this movie, and I really enjoyed the Elphaboq friendship. And while, obviously, this isn't quite a scene from the book - it's got Elphaba and Boq's friendship dynamic, something that we don't see at all in the musical.
It's nice to see, and it would have worked really well with the betrayal Elphaba feels when she sees book has brought into the propaganda that she is a wicked witch in act 2.
Also it's funny AF to see that he's noticed her crush on Fiyero.
