Mulder still has doubt in his mind that anything is going to happen. At the very worst, he would be stood up at the altar, which seemed funny in retrospect.

Like a blushing bride, Mulder waits patiently with shirt undone, candles lit, rope at the ready and even a (dulled) ceremonial knife. His heart is in his throat, beating like a moth caught in a lampshade. Was this really going to happen? He hopes so. He hopes that Lilly isn't simply dragging him around by the balls again. But, in all honest he can't be mad at her. He's been chasing her for a while and she must be getting tired of it.
