Daily MCO Drink #401, MCO Day #403: FALLEN ANGEL, made with 2 parts Widges London Dry Gin, 1 part lemon juice, 1 dash Angostura Aromatic Bitters, 1/2 part Giffard Menthe-Pastille, shaken over ice and strained. Started out following the original recipe in Harry Craddock’s ‘Savoy Cocktail Book’, which calls for “1 dash Angostura Bitters, 2 dashes creme de menthe, the juice on 1 lemon or 1/2 lime, 1 glass dry gin”. Quickly became clear that 1 dash of mint liqueur wasn’t gonna cut it for me, so I upped to 1/2 part. Result was a nicer minty note that helped balance the lemon juice better. And yes, finally, a proper London dry gin! I quite like Widges: it’s an uncomplicated juniper-forward dry gin that holds its own well even in drinks with richer and more complex flavours.
