A very short vid on why I go to the trouble of being picky & alter the styrofoam heads I use for wigs! What makes them better? Quite a few things -- Listen/watch :)
They're also available for sale separately now (instead of only with wig purchases) at enchantedseastudio.etsy.com.
why does it always feel so absolutely necessary to sharpie weird faces of styrofoam wig heads
Me: I should take better care of my wigs.
Also me:
Wig heads on Amazon: $2 each
Shipping for 6 wig heads: $58
One of my wig heads is terrifying
Sorry if this sounds dumb...but how do you stuff a wig head? Mines made out of Styrofoam, I don't know if it can expand. Are there ones that arent?
Hello there!
I’m assuming you saw this post?
You aren’t going to be expanding your wig head from the inside. Because of how wig heads work, they require a smooth, taut surface in order to hold the wig, so even if you get a fabric-covered one (those exist, but are much less common than the styrofoam ones), the surface will be smooth and firm without excess room to add material to the inside.
Instead, you’re going to be adding material to the outside of the wig head. Think of it as padding rather than stuffing. Duct tape is a popular choice for this, since you can either create a model of your head entirely (obviously not taping over your face, and using cellophane around anywhere you do tape as to prevent the tape from sticking directly to skin and/or hair), or, like in the post I linked above, using strips of tape that correspond to measurements of your head Either way, this will create a framework that is the same shape and size as your own head, and you can then add your stuffing between your styrofoam wig head and the duct tape exterior.
(You might be able to substitute with different types of tape -- I know that duct tape can be a bit of a pain to pin through, and it tends to get gunk on your pins, so I’d actually look into homemade dress form tutorials for ideas on other types of tape if you want to substitute. These dress forms work under the same principle -- using tape to create a shell that’s an exact double of your body, and then stuff the shell.)
As far as I know, they don’t make wig heads that have adjustable sizes built in, but padding on top of a cheap stryofoam one seems simple enough.
I hope that helps! :]
