Whumpmas in July (Day 5): What trope do you wish there was more content for?
The trope that most easily comes to mind for me the exact moment that a rescuer/caretaker-to-be finds the whumpee. It’s not entirely uncommon, but it tends to be a small second and only a few sentences. I also tend to see it most in fanfiction.
But yeah… I like the search under pressure and then the rescuer pushes a door open or they see a silhouette and it’s their teammate, the whumpee. What’s their reaction? Are they shocked? Scared? Angry? What do they do next? Do they run straight to the whumpee, or do they first seek violent vengeance on the nearest whumper?
I like the first words to the whumpee (if conscious) and the quick weighing of options and consequences. Maybe they have the time to check the severity of injuries and do first aid, but often times it’s more: We gotta go. We gotta run.
Bonus points if the whumpee is the youngest and/or most innocent of a team. Double Bonus points if a usually stoic or lighthearted whumpee is reduced to a sobbing, broken mess that shakes the rescuer to the core.
