Describe your favorite type of whumper!

this answer might be considered cheating, but my favorite kind of whumper is a whumper-turned-whumpee!

one of my favorite tropes of all time, which is evident if you've read my writing. i love the messy emotions it brings, the guilt and regret. i love a whumper experiencing the same things they did to their own whumpee, or experiencing something a thousand times worse. i love the character development, a whumper needing to grapple with their whole sense of self and morality. redemption arcs have been a favorite of mine ever since i watched zuko in avatar as a kid, and redemption arcs often go hand-in-hand with whumper turned whumpee (though not always).

my favorite part of this trope, though, is the character dynamics it creates. what happened to whumpee? did they switch roles, and whumpee is the whumper now, exacting their revenge? does whumpee save whumper from a third party and act as their caretaker, despite the past? it can create some really emotion-filled moments and i love it.

if you consider this a cheat answer, my second-favorite type of whumper is actually two whumpers: good whumper / bad whumper, when one whumper is relatively better than a much crueler one. it creates such an interesting dynamic! i love dynamics...

Well, I (don't) hate to say it, but I love me a 'classic' villain. Evil, witty, well-spoken, and just oozing that sickening kind of charisma that makes you love to hate them.

They're remorseless, mean, and nasty.

They're powerful — too powerful, and all too happy to abuse that power.

They have a reason for their wrongdoing; they don't just enjoy the pain of others...they want something and they will stop at nothing to get it.

They're over-the-top in the best way.

They dish out the best insults.

They're fun. But bad.

Bubbly lady whumpers: Look, im gay, and I want to see a cute girl go ballistic on someone and look pretty while doing it

Mad scientists: once again, Im gay 👩‍🔬🤷‍♂️

Sadistic whumpers: I love seeing a whumper who just does not have any limits, they will go completely feral and lose track of if the whumpee can survive this or not

Day 8: Favourite type of whumper

A lot of my favourite whump includes no whumper at all! Environmental whump and angst are amazing. When there is a whumper, I like one who is... not necessarily impersonal, but not personally interested in whomever they're whumping.

Their motive can be almost anything - coercion, interrogation, 'justice,' revenge, etc. - so long as it isn't about the victim as an individual. Even something seemingly personal, like revenge, can be done without that connection, because the person the whumper really wants to hurt might be dead or otherwise beyond their reach, so the whumpee just serves as a stand-in.

I think the main reason personally-motivated whumpers, like intimate whumpers, don't work as well for me is that they don't view the people they hurt as worthless. Even if a whumper sees someone as a slave, pet, or pretty toy, those things all have value - not the value a person has, but still value, as unique 'possessions.' For me, whump hits hardest when the person being whumped is viewed as worth absolutely nothing. Just completely valueless garbage.

This is all in regards to characters whose sole or primary identity is 'whumper.' I like characters who play multiple roles, so to be technically correct, my favourite whumpers are also whumpees, caretakers, and none of the above at different points. But I probably wouldn't call them whumpers then, just characters.

Or does the guilt of what they've done flash across their eyes with every strike? Day 8: Describe your fav type of whumper

Admittedly I’m not a big fan of whumper whump but on the off chance I do seek whump with a whumper involved I tend to enjoy the type who has a grudge to settle or needs information of some sort or enjoys inflicting pain for the sake of it. Maybe my favorite is more of a combination of the three. Say it’s someone who is tasked with retrieving a bit of important information out of the whumpee and was hired to do so either A) it’s known that this person hates whumpee and wants to settle a score or B) has a reputation for torturing. Cause torture is really the only place I enjoy having a whumper.

oh boy.....😈😈😈

well. i certainly have a weakness for whumpers who are self-righteous bullies, ya know? cops, karens, the like. people who believe their cruelty is justified and that, more importantly, their arbitrary power to punish is not to be questioned. people who convince themselves - and others - that their victims deserve that’s being done to them (whether because of the type of person the victim is or because they weren’t compliant enough and if they just obeyed then, well, they wouldn't have gotten hurt, now would they?)

whumpers who are Normal People TM who are certainly not terrible and cruel and complicit in oppressive systems, no sir, just a fine upstanding citizen.

Describe your favorite type of whumper!

y'all know I looooove whumper-turned-whumpee so I'm not gonna talk about it in this post (you're free! but only for a single post before I'm back on my bullshit)

anyway...what type of whumper do I like other than that? I don't actually know...it's hard to pin down an exact type that I read most often, though there is one that I think is really spicy

hehehe this one is nice, especially when you don't know at first that the whumper used to be a whumpee so its like something you find out a little later on and are like "italicized oh." and its just a really nice feeling i get a lot of whumperflies from seeing this person who is cold and callous and looks all evil and shit and then you get the slightest hint that they were hurt in the past and suffered so much more than anyone could imagine and now its like, my whole view of this character has shifted because they're not doing the evil things out of nowhere but have a past that shaped them like this.

there's a lot you can do with it! there's the classic, whumpee turned whumper for their former whumper, there's the revenge, there's forced to hurt and eventually devolved into being used to it or even enjoying it, its the whumpee feeling powerful when hurting others and they think it will somehow erase their own hurt and their own memories of being powerless. or they could have been forced to hurt or get hurt some more because they are working for an even bigger whumper. or they think theyre doing it for some "greater good" or some noble but misguided goal. or because they just never want to be hurt again.

idk its just a good trope
