Bones hated going on away missions; he absolutely fucking hated them. Something always went wrong, and then he was always left to patch up the damage done to his crewmates, usually damage that should really be fixed by more than what he could carry on away missions.

This time it had been Ensign Marko who’d been injured - primitive spear straight through the gut. Bones had managed to keep him from bleeding out, but the sooner he got back to med bay, the better his chances would be.

They’d finally managed to get back in touch with the Enterprise, and they’d been beamed up. Bones grit his teeth through the uncomfortable sensation, focusing on supporting Marko as best he could. “Scotty, I hope you have that team ready,” he snapped.

“Aye, sir; they’re coming down the hall now,” the chief engineer confirms.

“Good,” Bones growls. “Jim, help me hold him up; he’s ready to keel over.”
