Started picking them in an old flower pot I had on hand, thinking there won't be that many, ended up having to go get a bucket.

I panicked a bit when it was time to sow them, because I didn't save any seeds last year and from my old ones all I could find was a baggie from 2016, so I didn't know how they'd germinate, but here they are.

Remember last year’s volunteer wild tomato?

Seeds from old tomatoes fell on the ground and this is the result. These are the seedlings I’ve plucked out from that corner of the lawn today. And it’s not even the first time I’m clearing it.

Circle of wild tomato seedlings. This year’s seedlings weren’t the best, so I sowed these later to make sure I’m not going to be left without any tomatoes. One of them I’m going to leave in this container and take it inside during winter to see how long it’ll last.

Saving some wild tomato seeds from that volunteer plant because I’ve realized I have none left from previous years. 

(Those drying seeds are actually from only half of those tomatoes and the already dried and packed ones are from last week.)

They looked so good when I stopped to take a picture of them this morning that I went back and harvested some for a salad.

There’s this tomato plant in the corner of our lawn that has gone a little awry. I noticed it in the spring when I was mowing the grass and I jokingly tied it to a stick and left it there to grow. It’s a single plant, but ended up taking so much space. I think I only picked tomatoes from it once, it’s mostly Greta who eats them.

Tomato varieties planted this year:

- Wild tomatoes

- Orange Cherry

- Piennolo del Vesuvio

- Black tomatoes

- Citron Russe

- Two (or more?) old, traditional varieties everyone grows around here, don’t know their name

- Old German
