Getting some Koala'ty rest is assured with this species. This one is one of Australia's most iconic animals. Yep, you guessed it. It's a Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus). Despite the rumours, koalas don’t ‘get high’ or ‘drugged out’ on eucalyptus leaves. It’s because the leaves are so low in nutrients that koalas need more sleep than most animals which basically helps them conserve energy, sleeping as much as 18 hours a day. Unfortunately, the fires in both Queensland and New South Wales has caused a dramatic decline in numbers with even more in wildlife careers or hospitals with burns, dehydration or other injuries or infection/ disease. These carers and organisations are mostly public funded, so donations are always helpful. @queensland @australia #koala #wildlifeconservation #wildlifecarer #wildlife #marsupial #photo #photographer #image #Australia #thisisaustralia #queensland #thisisqueensland #DSLR #DSLRphotography https://www.instagram.com/p/B5bXhOZnb2i/?igshid=o0zxiwhw4prt
